Netflix viewers rush to binge ‘masterpiece’ British comedy series starring Harry Potter legend
It was called it 'thrilling and unpredictable'.
A series praised by fans for its ‘dark British humour’ has quickly become one of the most watched shows since being released on Netflix this week.
Originally airing in 2017, Sick Note starred Rupert Grint as insurance agent Daniel Glass, a compulsive liar facing a failing relationship and dead-end job when things get even worse, and he’s diagnosed with terminal oesophageal cancer.
However, it then emerges that he’s been misdiagnosed by incompetent doctor Iain Glennis, played by Nick Frost.
But after realising he’s treated much better by those around him following the diagnosis, Daniel decides to keep quiet, but his lies quickly pile up.
At the same time Iain also realises helping to cover up the deception benefits him too, with the pair becoming allies.
However, they then face the inquiries of a local policeman who suspects Daniel may have been involved in a murder case. The web of lies only gets bigger, with serious crimes then being committed.

The show was added to Netflix today and in less than 24 hours, it’s already shot up the charts and become the fourth most-watched TV show on the streaming service.
The series marked the first TV show Rupert had ever done, calling the concept a ‘very fresh idea’.

After starring in Harry Potter, the actor admitted he felt pressure working on something else but he’d been keen to ‘have the chance to show that you can do different things’.
‘But Harry Potter was never something I was desperate to shake off. I just enjoy doing different things.’
Although there were initially plans for a second season to be produced, in 2021 its co-creator Nat Saunders said it was ‘neither recommissioned or cancelled, just in TV show limbo’ but adding a return was unlikely to proceed.
