A British man has collapsed and died while walking his dog along a Spanish beach.

The 40-year-old, who has not been named, was on the shoreline of Enebrales beach in Punta Umbria, north-western Spain, yesterday afternoon when he went into cardiac arrest.

Emergency responders spent more than half an hour trying to save the man after the alarm was raised.

However, he could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man is understood to have been identified by his dog’s microchip, as he wasn’t carrying any ID.

A post-mortem is expected to take place later today or tomorrow to try to establish the cause of death.

Punta Umbria is a resort town in the province of Huelva near the border of Portugal. Enegrales beach is 2.5km long and popular with both locals and tourists.
