This Airbnb is held up by 8,000 balloons, just like the house in a classic Pixar movie

A dream holiday awaits for Disney fans as Airbnb is giving you the chance to stay in the iconic house from Up, complete with balloons.

Fans will remember that in the 2009 Disney Pixar classic, an elderly man goes on an epic adventure by attaching thousands of balloons to his house, allowing the house to float off into the skies. 

Now, Airbnb is listing the house in Abiquiu, New Mexico, and it appears to be hosted by none other than the star of the movie himself, the eternally lovable (and grumpy) Carl Fredricksen.

In the listing, Carl writes: ‘I don’t always like visitors, but I guess it’s pretty nice to have them now that it’s just me and Dug. So, come stay in my cosy home I made with my dear Ellie.’

Don’t fear, the house doesn’t actually defy gravity – despite appearing to be lifted up by 8,000 balloons it’s actually held aloft the New Mexico skyline by a giant crane. You will, however, still get to experience floating away (if you’re feeling brave).

Visitors will begin their stay as Junior Wilderness Explorers, just like Russell in the film. They’ll also take on mini adventures and collect badges, and they’ll be able to get to know Carl’s ‘dear Ellie’ by ‘checking out her goggles,’ ‘flipping through her adventure book’ and ‘reading her love letters.’ N’aw.

And, like any other Airbnb stay, guests will also be asked to complete chores including collecting the post and ‘minding the house.’

Anyone can apply for the once-in-a-lifetime stay but only a lucky few will get chosen – and better yet, it’s free! You just need to choose your dates, add your guests, then answer a question about why you want to go.

‘First, we’ll randomly choose a set of potential guests. Next, we’ll review their answers for unique perspectives and connections to the icon. Then, we’ll invite selected guests to book,’ Airbnb’s clarification on the booking process reads.

According to the listing, Airbnb purchased Carl and Ellie’s home to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the movie.

‘Ellie was the best adventurer, so you’ve got big shoes to fill,’ Carl added of his beloved wife, whom we see leave Carl in the tear-jerking beginning of Up.

The incredible holiday has been launched as part of Icons, a new category of ‘extraordinary experiences hosted by the greatest names in music, film, television, art, sports, and more,’ Airbnb explained.

‘Icons take you inside worlds that only existed in your imagination – until now. As life becomes increasingly digital, we’re focused on bringing more magic into the real world. With Icons, we’ve created the most extraordinary experiences on Earth,’ said Brian Chesky, Airbnb co-founder and CEO.

And this isn’t the only unique stay you can try with Airbnb icons. You can also experience Prince’s Purple Rain house in Minnesota, which has never been open to the public before.

To coincide with the release of Inside Out 2, you can also step inside Headquarters, the control centre of Riley’s emotions where you can see ‘emotions in action and help keep things in balance.’

In the past, Airbnb has also launched experiential stays such as the Home Alone house in Chicago, Barbie’s Malibu Dreamhouse and even a trip to Shrek’s Swamp.
