Dark period drama that ‘instantly hooked’ viewers is now streaming on Netflix
The Yellowstone spin-off has received high praise from viewers.

A ‘gut-wrenching’ Western drama starring the likes of Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford is now available to stream on Netflix.
Written by Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, the spin-off series 1923 first premiered back in 2022 and received rave reviews from fans.
However, while it might have been high up on people’s watchlists, most were unable to view it as it required a Paramount Plus subscription.
Now, however, fans are rejoiced to hear that it has arrived on Netflix in the UK.
Starring Mirren and Ford as Cara and Jacob Dutton respectively, 1923 follows the Dutton family in Montana during a time of hardship including Prohibition, drought and the early stages of the Great Depression.

Siraj Teli wrote: ‘1923 has easily become one of the most captivating series I’ve ever watched.
‘I’ve never been so eager and desperate for the final season before, and that’s saying something.
‘From the very first episode, I was pulled into the brutal and unforgiving world of the Dutton family as they navigate the harsh reality of the Wild West. The storyline is gripping and powerful, shedding light on just how dangerous and unpredictable life was during that time.’
Fans have described the series as ‘gut-wrenching’ (Picture: Emerson Miller/Paramount+/Viacom International Inc.)Tarek Ali added: ‘Taylor Sheridan delivers again, picking a monumental period in history. This entire season is set in an amazing era when the ancient world fell away and the roller coaster ride toward modernity began.’
Morgan Davidson also said: ‘Gut wrenching and witty and heart breaking and love inspiring.
‘This show is a beautiful myriad of conflicting emotions that juxtapose each other in such a beautiful way that my vocabulary fails me. Not to mention telling the history that American public schools do not teach.’
Meanwhile, Lehano Van Wyk commented: ‘1923 is a modern Western series that has gained a lot of popularity among fans of the genre.
‘The show is set in the year 1923 and follows the story of a young rancher who is struggling to hold on to his land and heritage in the face of various challenges.
‘One of the best things about 1923 is how authentic the series feels. The show does an excellent job of capturing the look and feel of the American West in the early 20th century. From the clothing and the horseback riding, to the dusty, sprawling landscapes, everything is carefully crafted to give viewers an immersive experience.’
The series was formerly behind a Paramount Plus subscription paywall (Picture: Paramount)Following the release of Yellowstone, five series have been created since, including 1883, 1923, 6666, The Madison and 1944.

CBS is believed to have given the show a 13-episode order, according to Variety.
There are plans for the series to begin shooting this summer to launch at midseason 2026.
Luke Grimes will once again play Kayce, who is the youngest of the Dutton siblings and a former Navy SEAL.
