Three young British actors have had their lives changed forever by being cast in the Harry Potter TV series – but we don’t know who they are just yet.

Warner Bros. are making the final preparations for the HBO Max series, which is set to commence production later this year before premiering in 2027.

The series will be based on the popular children’s fantasy novels that were published between 1997 and 2007, selling millions of copies worldwide.

Several big names have already joined the cast in major roles, including John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.

Paapa Essiedu has been cast as potions master Severus Snape, Janet McTeer will play Minerva McGonagall, while Paul Whitehouse will be taking on the role of Argus Filch.

But the question on everybody’s lips is who will play Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived, and his two closest friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.

While the identities of the three future child stars haven’t been revealed yet, it’s been reported that they are all 11 years old and all British.

Being cast as Harry, Ron, and Hermione made stars out of Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson, who starred in all eight Harry Potter films after being cast age 11.

But not only did it make the trio stars of the screen – being cast as Harry, Ron, and Hermione also made millionaires out of Daniel, Rupert, and Emma.

Emma now has an estimated net worth of more than £60million, while Rupert sits on a reported fortune of between £35m and £50m. Harry actor Daniel now has an estimated net worth of between £80m and £100m.

A finance expert told MailOnline that – due to inflation and the increased ubiquity of the Harry Potter franchise since the films were first made in the early 2000s – the three young actors who have been chosen for the series will likely earn even more.

Martin Cobb said: ‘There’s absolutely no reason to suppose [the new actors] won’t easily exceed the incomes of the three original stars.’

However, while the series is expected to be a hit for HBO Max, the number of children auditioning for the roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione is reportedly down from 25 years ago.

In 1999, producers received an estimated 40,000 audition applications for the three main roles. In 2024 and 2025, TV executives are said to have watched 32,000 audition tapes – a drop of 20%.

And it’s unlikely that Daniel, Emma, or Rupert will be making cameo appearances in the HBO Max series, given their very public criticism of author JK Rowling’s stance on transgender rights.

In 2020, Daniel shared a statement saying ‘transgender women are women’ and that ‘any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people.’

He continued: ‘[To say trans women aren’t women] goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo or I.’

An HBO boss has urged fans that the series won’t be ‘secretly infused’ with Rowling’s views, adding that he isn’t ‘worried’ about how her social media activity will affect the series.

‘It’s pretty clear that those are her personal, political views. She’s entitled to them. Harry Potter is not secretly being infused with anything. And if you want to debate her, you can go on Twitter.’
