Kurti Warns of Deep Crisis - Kosovo's Prime Minister Albin Kurti has strongly reacted to the political situation in the country, accusing the opposition of institutional blockade and warning of severe financial and political consequences if the country goes to new elections.

Kosovo's Prime Minister Albin Kurti has reacted strongly to the political situation in the country, accusing the opposition of institutional blockade and warning of severe financial and political consequences if the country goes to new elections. In a message to citizens, Kurti stressed that after 10 months of blockade in 2025, the December 28 elections sent a clear message from the people, which he said should be respected by all political subjects.

The new legislature has already elected the Speaker of the Assembly and the Government, but the President remains to be elected. Kurti argued that avoiding new elections, which he considers unnecessary and costly, is essential. "Organizing new elections would cost Kosovo at least 10 million euros, and due to the non-functioning of the Assembly, we would also lose tens of millions of euros from the international community," he said.

Kurti noted that the main problem is ensuring 80 votes for the election of the President, which he believes cannot be solved through new elections. He pointed out that his movement, Vetëvendosje, won 51.1% of the votes and 57 deputies, and with partners, they have 66 deputies, urging that this result be reflected in decision-making.

Kurti revealed that he has made several concrete offers for compromise with the opposition, including power-sharing with the Democratic League of Kosovo and proposals for the division of key positions with the Democratic Party of Kosovo. However, all offers have been rejected.

Among the offers, Kurti mentioned the possibility of handing over the leadership of the Assembly to the opposition, even suggesting specific names such as Bedri Hamza and Vlora Çitaku. The Prime Minister harshly criticized the leaders of the opposition, accusing them of not wanting either responsibility or power, but only to obstruct governance.

In conclusion, Kurti emphasized that institutional stability is vital for the country and that the will of the citizens must be respected, calling for the achievement of a solution that respects the democratic process and the will of the people.
