A Harry Potter legend has confirmed they will be reprising their beloved role in the upcoming TV reboot.

Filming is already underway for the highly anticipated HBO revival of the wizarding saga, with casting already revealed for characters like Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley and Albus Dumbledore.

Now, another Hogwarts professor has been revealed with a familiar face returning to the franchise.

Warwick Davis will be back as charms Professor Filius Flitwick, the role he originated in the film series, while he’s passing on Gringotts banker Griphook to Leigh Hill.

He described the move as a ‘real homecoming’, and wrote on Instagram: ‘Hogwarts has always held a very special place in my heart. ????⚡️

‘When I first stepped into Professor Flitwick’s robes all those years ago, I could never have imagined the journey this character — and the wizarding world — would take me on.

In a caption over a photo of him with the Hogwarts Express, he added: ‘I’m so excited (and truly honoured) to share that I’ll be returning as Professor Filius Flitwick in the upcoming @HBOMax Original @HarryPotter television series.’

The news was announced as part of Back to Hogwarts on September 1, an annual celebration for fans which marks students starting at the fictional school of witchcraft and wizardry.

What you need to know about the Harry Potter TV reboot When is the Harry Potter reboot going to air? The first season based on the Philosopher’s Stone is set to air in 2027 Who’s in the cast? A wealth of stars have already been announced for the cast, including Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton as Harry, Ron and Hermione respectively. Big names like John Lithgow (Dumbledore), Janet McTeer (McGonagall), Paapa Essiedu (Severus Snape) and more have also been confirmed. What channel will the show be on? The show is heading to HBO in the US. It’s likely to air on Sky/Now in the UK, but that’s not confirmed Is JK Rowling involved? Yes, JK Rowling is involved, and previously revealed she had seen some early scripts.

We already know Dominic McLaughlin is taking the role of the titular character Harry, stepping into Daniel Radcliffe’s famous shoes, having appeared alongside Game of Thrones’ Indira Varma in a Shakespearean production of Macbeth.

Meanwhile, it’s highly unlikely the original Harry, Hermione and Ron – Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, or Rupert Grint – will make cameo appearances, given their very public criticism of author JK Rowling’s stance on transgender rights, which has sparked criticism of the new TV adaptation.

While some actors have sworn off ever considering a role given the writer’s opinions, others have not.

Filming already kicked off on July 14 at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, with the first season set to focus on the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

The series has been confirmed for a 2027 release window, which will mark 16 years since the final movie Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two was released in cinemas.

The Harry Potter TV show will stream exclusively on Max in 2027.
