Ruth Jones announces split from husband who confirms his new relationship
They married in 1999.
Gavin and Stacey co-creator Ruth Jones and her husband, television producer David Peet, have revealed they are now legally separated.
In a joint statement shared with the PA news agency, the couple said: ‘We amicably went our separate ways 18 months ago and are now legally separated. We remain good friends.
‘Since our separation, Ruth is living in London and David is living in Canada, where he is in a new relationship.’
Jones and Peet married in 1999 and collaborated on various projects over the years, most notably Gavin and Stacey, which Jones co-wrote and starred in alongside James Corden.
The beloved BBC sitcom originally aired from 2007 to 2010, with several Christmas specials following – the most recent and final episode broadcast on Christmas Day 2024.
It drew record viewership as it brought the series to a close with the long-anticipated wedding of Jones’s character, Vanessa ‘Nessa’ Jenkins, and Neil ‘Smithy’ Smith, played by Corden.

Jones first gained recognition in the ITV drama Fat Friends, where she met both Corden and Peet.
In 2014, Jones was appointed an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the New Year Honours list, in recognition of her contributions to entertainment.
At this year’s TV BAFTAs, Jones said: ‘I’m not gonna lie, this is immense. I didn’t expect to win this.’
She continued: ‘I love working with James Corden, I really do.’
‘And I hope that we will carry on working together. I think we will. We will, because we just both like sitting in a room together.’
