One of the creepiest shows on the air has just been renewed for a fourth season on Paramount Plus.
Yellowjackets is a coming-of-age meets cannibalism saga that sees a women’s football team fly to compete at nationals, when their plane crashes in the wilderness, postcode: middle of nowhere.
Starring a stand-out cast including Christina Ricci and Melanie Lynskey, the show operates at two timelines: the women in middle-age still reckoning with the traumatic longtail of what they did to survive, alongside flashbacks to their younger selves stranded in the woods.
The third season sees the teenage survivors approaching their second winter in the wilderness, when the proverbial really starts to hit the fan. The finale finally answered the question of Pit Girl’s identity – who we see in the show’s very first flashforward scene – as well as several other lingering questions to leave fans on a cliffhanger in both timelines.
Paramount Plus and Showtime have now confirmed Yellowjackets will return for a fourth season, after the latest finale shattered records with three million cross-platform viewers worldwide in its first seven days.
Chris McCarthy, co-CEO of Paramount Global and President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios said in a statement announcing the renewal: ‘[Co-creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson] have masterfully crafted an utterly singular, genre-defying phenomenon.

The renewal is in line with the original plans for the show, which was pitched as a five-season arc Lyle recently said they’re ‘still on track for’.
She told EW: ‘We don’t really see this as being more than a five-season show. I think that there are shows that can go forever, but I think that when you’re telling such a deeply serialized story and it’s about these characters’ lives, you want to reach a satisfying conclusion and not just drag things out forever.’
The show has already proved to be a juggernaut among viewers, breeding rampant online discourse of theories and Easter egg hunts. But it’s certainly not one for the squeamish or pearl-clutchers.
