Pirates of the Caribbean film producer Jerry Bruckheimer has revealed that a major Hollywood star is still attached to the sixth Pirates film.

The producer, 82, is a Pirates legend after producing all five of the Pirates films, which have been met with huge success.

After the fifth film was released in 2017, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, there has been a lot of chatter for the past eight years about what is coming up next.

Now Bruckheimer has revealed that Margot Robbie is sill attached to the project, after being in talks nearly three years ago.

‘She’s still involved,’ the producer confirmed, adding that scriptwriter Ted Elliott also was returning to the franchise: ‘He worked on it, and we’ve brought someone else in to fill in the blanks.’

He told The Wrap that they are still waiting to finalise the plot: ‘We’re working on a script.’ He added: ‘If we don’t have it on the page, it’s not gonna get on the screen.’

‘We had two scripts at one point, and then one kind of dropped out and we kind of went with the other one,’ Bruckheimer added.

The Pirates franchise is a tricky one to keep going after five films, he explained: ‘That world is so cool and specific…You just gotta find the right way in.’

Of course, this doesn’t mean that Robbie will definitely be appearing in the next film in the franchise, but she may or may not be joined by another Hollywood actor.

Johnny Depp has also been rumoured to be in talks about reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly earier this year, Bruckheimer confirmed that development on the next instalment of the blockbuster Disney franchise is moving forward, with a screenplay currently in development.

He said Depp’s participation would ultimately depend on how the character is written: ‘If he likes the way the part’s written, I think he would do it,’ Bruckheimer explained, noting that the script is still being refined.

‘It’s all about what’s on the page, as we all know… We want to make it. We just got to get the right screenplay. We haven’t quite gotten there yet, but we’re close.’

In May 2022, Bruckheimer confirmed Robbie was in talks: ‘Yes. We’re talking to Margot Robbie.

‘We are developing two Pirates scripts — one with her, one without.’

In November 2022, the Barbie actress then revealed that Disney had scrapped her idea of doing an all-women cast of Pirates.

‘We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led — not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story — which we thought would’ve been really cool.’

The star then explained to Vanity Fair that the studio was no longer interested in following through with production: ‘But I guess they don’t want to do it.’

It is unclear what version of the script she may currently be involved in.
