7 best stand-ups to stream on Amazon Prime Video this weekend
Your guide to guaranteed laughs.

Saturday night is the best night to close the curtains, dim the lights, and lose yourself in 60 to 90 minutes of perfect stand-up comedy.
This year, streaming services are spoiling us with their stand-up content and Amazon Prime Video’s comedy library contains some of the biggest names ever to make crowds laugh.
Legendary American comics, alternative British names, and new faces on the stand-up scene are all part of the line-up Prime offers its subscribers.
The list boasts some of the best of BBC comedy from the UK, as well as classic stand-up from the 1990s that remains timeless and timely to this day.
We’ve also thrown in some curveballs that some British viewers may not have encountered before – just to give your Saturday night that extra bit of new spice.
Metro has picked out some of the best… just for you.
Snowflake / Tornado – Stewart Lee Stewart Lee toured the UK with his Snowflake / Tornado show in 2022 (Picture: BBC)Stewart Lee has never been one to shy away from tough topics, and his 2022 stand-up show Snowflake / Tornado is no different.
Across two hour-long sets, combined into a two-hour whole, Stewart tackles the culture wars, starts an Alan Bennett reading corner, and aims several swipes at other comics in the entertainment industry.
Taking on a ‘snowflake’ persona, Stewart makes a case for political correctness and produces a joke ‘written by two people who don’t understand it’.
His comedy has always been, above anything else, uncompromising in its execution, but he’s still left audiences giggling and guffawing for years.
Despite starting out on stages almost 40 years ago, the London-based comic has consistently kept his act fresh and is currently on a 2025 tour of UK.
Seasoned Professional – Jenny Slate Jenny Slate’s face will be familiar to British viewers (Picture: Presley Ann/Getty)Returning to the stage after five years, Jenny Slate tackles topics like unexpected pregnancy, therapy sessions, and trusting her partner in Seasoned Professional.
The stand-up special came in 2024, with her last live show – titled Stage Fright – released back in 2019.
You’ll recognise Jenny’s face and/or voice from the American comedy series’ Parks & Recreation (in which she plays Mona-Lisa Saperstein) and Bob’s Burgers (in which she plays Tammy Larsen).
IMDb user CGLamb reviewed the special, saying: ‘This special had me in tears from laughing so hard. Jenny Slate is a wonderful combination of relatable and off the wall.
‘The fact that she could be completely honest about the weirdness of giving birth and still make it drop dead hilarious is really refreshing.’
Live From the BBC – VariousIf you’re in the mood not just for one big stand-up show but several smaller stand-up shows in quick succession, look no further than Live From the BBC.
Featuring stellar names such as James Acaster, Nish Kumar, and Felicity Ward, the first season of Live From the BBC tasks some of the biggest names in British comedy with getting through their routine in just 15 minutes.
The series originally began in 2016 and was a BBC Three production, with 18 episodes having made so far – the secondseason landed in 2017 and extended the runtime of each routine.
A third season was made and released in 2018, but no further plans were made to release any more episodes. Amazon now hosts the series on its streaming platform Prime Video.
Weakness is the Brand – Maria Bamford ‘Get ready to feel much better about yourself!’ (Picture: Comedy Central/Everett/REX/Shutterstock)Maria Bamford is known for her unique style of comedy that isn’t afraid to tackle dark and sensitive topics, often ensuring the target of her jokes is Maria herself.
The American comic has released several stand-up specials down the years and has allowed many TV shows to borrow her voice down the years, including BoJack Horseman and American Dad.
Amazon describes Maria’s performance by saying ‘weakness is her brand, so get ready to feel much better about yourself’ – sounds perfect for a Saturday night pick-me-up.
On IMDb, user MarkAnthonyParra said: ‘Maria Bamford hits all the right notes. If you like her this will be ambrosia for you. Really a wonderful examination of transparency and mental hijinks. So satisfying!’
Fake News – Jonathan PieJonathan Pie (real name Tom Walker) has been ranting and raving about international politics ever since he first popped up in 2015.
For those that don’t know Pie, the comedian films skits – often in a single take – in the style of a news report, often breaking off into long, unfiltered tirades about the state of the world.
Amazon says: ‘If no news is good news, then good news is fake news. Jonathan Pie returns to the road once more to berate the people in power – and the journalists apparently holding them to account.’
The Fake News live show originally ran in 2019 but the script was subsequently updated and relaunched following the events of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Pie has remained popular with people who have become increasingly disillusioned with mainstream politics over the last 10 to 15 years.
41st Best Stand-Up Ever! – Stewart Lee Fancy spending your Saturday night with the 41st Best Stand-Up… Ever? (Picture: Jo Hale/Getty Images)Yep. Him again!
In 2007, Stewart Lee was voted as the ’41st best stand-up comedian of all time’ so he decided to give himself the title and head out on a UK tour.
Years before he was defending political correctness in Snowflake and doing Alan Bennett impressions in Tornado, he was taking on Russell Brand… and also defending political correctness.
That’s right – as much as his style has changed over the years, Stewart has kept the thrust of his comedy consistent throughout his career.
But as much as his style has changed, Stewart’s comedy has always remained idiosyncratic – which is to say that, for some, he can be an acquired taste.
With that said, we still think you’ll be won over quickly as he tackles Celebrity Big Brother, weight watchers, and the ‘values’ of the Carphone Warehouse.
Hello World – Nate Bargatze (Picture: Courtesy of Amazon Video)With half a dozen stand-up specials under his belt after working in the comedy industry for 14 years, Nate Bargatze must feel on top of the world.
And while on top of the world for his 2023 stand-up, Nate chooses to say Hello World – the live show was recorded at the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix, Arizona.
During Hello World, Nate – dubbed a ‘clean comedian’ – runs through ‘the disadvantages of being the first born, the challenges of playing golf with your wife, and what happens when a bald eagle touches your head.’
Nate’s perfect if you’re looking for a comedian to watch while any children might also be in the front room, with Amazon describing his style of comedy as ‘family friendly’.
All the above are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
