Amazon Prime Video viewers can now binge all episodes of an ‘extraordinarily creepy’ thriller series.

Released today, Fear stars Line of Duty’s Martin Compston as Martyn, who along with his wife Rebecca (Anjli Mohindra) and their two children, move from London into a new home in Glasgow.

However, things quickly take a turn when they discover their neighbour isn’t as welcoming as they initially believed.

Instead, Jan (Solly McLeod) makes unsettling comments to Rebecca and quickly becomes more intimidating and makes chilling accusations that are ‘every parent’s worst nightmare’.

But with the police unwilling to step in and help, the couple increasingly feels incredibly isolated.

The series is based on the 2018 novel of the same name by Dirk Kurbjuweit. It was adapted by Mick Ford and has been directed by Justin Chadwick (The Other Boleyn Girl, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom).

Reviews for the series have started coming in, with The Guardian calling it a ‘creepingly claustrophobic story of a stalker downstairs’.

‘The psychological torment starts to claw unbearably at you before long,’ it wrote.

‘It plays horribly effectively with our innate fears of our homes, our security, our sanity becoming undone, at the mercy of a force seemingly beyond our control.

‘Fear is a stylish, intelligent take on a story that has been told before but not often so well.’

While The Guardian gave the series 4 out of 5 stars, The Telegraph only gave it 4 out of 5.

‘What you get is a rather half-baked family drama…three episodes are simply not enough to cover the ground Fear is tackling,’ it wrote.

Despite this it hasn’t deterred many, who have expressed their excitement to tune in.

‘So, looking forward to Fear, amazing cast,’ Kim posted on Instagram.

‘Looks excellent,’ Colin shared.

‘This looks absolutely amazing!’ Beverley added.

Speaking to Metro ahead of the series’ premiere, Martin spoke about the toll filming took on him.

‘My last scenes were emotional, and I was like, I have nothing left, I really have nothing left,’ he shared.

‘At first, I got really upset with myself and went back to my trailer and went “I f***ed that up.” But then I realised it was because I had nothing left. I had given it everything I had. I had rung every little last emotion out.

‘We had been shooting for seven hours but it’s still a mad feeling when I felt I couldn’t access [the right emotions] for that last take. I’m really proud of that scene now when it comes together.’

Fear is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
