A ‘demented’ TV series based on a revered horror franchise has been renewed for a second season.

The Creep Tapes, available on Amazon Prime Video via Shudder, aired last year based on Mark Duplass and Patrick Brice’s acclaimed horror films Creep and Creep 2.

Across six episodes, viewers delved into Josef’s (or whatever new name he’s adopted) murder tapes as he hacks down unsuspecting victims while videoing their demise and the friendly, yet bizarre, banter leading up to it.

Duplass reprised the role of the mysterious serial killer for the series as well as co-writing alongside Brice.

Almost immediately after airing, fans were calling for a second season. And they’ve got their wish after Deadline announced six new episodes are on their way.

The publication reports that The Creep Tapes debuted as the most watched Shudder show of all time on AMC+, driving record subscriber growth.

An exact release date has not been announced, but season two of The Creep Tapes is set to air via Shudder later this year.

Addressing the news in a statement, Duplass said: ‘We made the first season of The Creep Tapes completely independently, so we were able to truly and unabashedly get our freak on.

‘The fact that so many of you watched it that Shudder not only asked us for more but asked us to go even further this time around? That’s just… really, really unsettling. And terrifically exciting.’

Brice added: ‘We are beyond delighted at the opportunity to bring audiences fresh kills from the closet in a second season of The Creep Tapes!

‘For the series to have found such a rabid audience at Shudder is an absolute dream.

‘It seems ridiculous to apply the term “labor of love” to such an insane franchise, but it’s the truth. We can’t wait to dive back in.

Horror fans were first introduced to Josef in 2015 found footage film Creep, which saw the killer hire struggling videographer Aaron (Brice) to film his day-to-day life, telling him that he was dying and wanted to make a tape for his wife and unborn child.

Creep 2 saw Josef, now under the name Aaron, hiring YouTuber Sara (Desiree Akhavan) and telling her he would let her live if she recorded a documentary about his life.

The Creep Tapes followed in 2024, with fans tuning in each week for a new dose of mayhem with Josef and Peachfuzz.

Season one currently sits at a 75% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with fans dubbing it ‘demented’ and ‘hilarious.’

Jarrod Jones posted on X: ‘With scuzzy showmanship from a never-better Mark Duplass, The Creep Tapes is an inventive and fascinating expansion of the gnarly serial killer film series. barring one crappy episode, it’s also easily one of the best shows I’ve seen this year.’

Similarly, DeVaughn Taylor said: ‘The Creep Tapes are everything I wanted from a Peachfuzz threequel, except more! Duplass is in top demented (and physical ????) form as we really get to know the enigmatic creep through some fun scenarios. Absolutely hilarious, peak social cringe horror! I love you, Wolfie.’

BJ Colangelo had high praise for the series, writing: ‘With The Creep Tapes, Patrick Brice and Mark Duplass have expanded their deliciously twisted wolfie baby into one of the best horror franchises of the 21st century.

‘For the love of Peachfuzz, invite your friends over when episodes hit Shudder and let this rock your worlds.’

The Creep Tapes season 2 will be released on Shudder via Amazon Prime Video later this year.
