I Know What You Did Last Summer director promises much more ‘brutal’ sequel
We're already terrified.

The upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel will ramp up the gore, blood and violence, the director has promised.
The original horror movie hit the big screen in 1997, with Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe among the stars.
Hewitt and Prinze Jr, who played Julie James and Ray Bronson respectively, returned for the 1998 follow-up, and have reprised their roles for the new slasher – which is hitting the big screen on July 18.
Teasing what the creepy hook-wielding killer has in store for the pair and the new cast, including Madelyn Cline and Chase Sui Wonders, director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson vowed that it will be ‘brutal’.
‘It is not a serious movie. It is a really fun, popcorn summer event,’ she told People Magazine, but teased that the horror aspect is ‘ratcheted up to a hundred in this — it’s much more brutal.
‘There’s definitely more methodology to every kill in this movie, unlike the first, which is kind of just him stalking them and going after them.
Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe were also in the original cast (Picture: Columbia)‘There’s not a lot of gore or blood or violence in the first one. There certainly is in this one.’
Hewitt, whose return was finally confirmed at the end of last year, insisted that the sequel is ‘terrifying’.
‘It felt like a high school reunion,’ she added of reuniting with her castmate after decades. ‘It felt like that moment where you’re like, “Oh my gosh, I have butterflies in my stomach and my heart is beating really fast because I have not seen this person in 150 years and now we’re back, here we are.”
‘We just had to jump right back into Julie and Ray, but when we did it felt like we had never left, honestly.’
Freddie, who played Ray, was the first to announce his return (Picture: Rex)The original 90s scare-fest followed a group of teenagers in a small town accidentally killing a man and covering it up – before being hunted by a hook-wielding serial killer on the anniversary of the attack.
Julie and Ray somehow managed to survive the first movie and jetted out to the Bahamas for the sequel, where they were joined by Brady, Mekhi Phifer, Matthew Settle and Jack Black.
In the new I Know What You Did Last Summer, which is due to terrify us all in just a few months, a new group of youngsters will find themselves on the bad side of a psychopath.
Cline and Wonders are starring alongside Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Billy Campbell and Gabbriette Bechtel in the reboot.
Brandy joined in the terrifying fun for the 1998 sequel (Picture: Rex)The official synopsis reads: ‘When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences.
‘A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge.
‘As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.’
I Know What You Did Last Summer is in cinemas on July 18.
