Lorraine Kelly has hit out at a social media account that tracks how much she turns up to work as ‘hurtful’.

The TV presenter hosts her weekday show – titled Lorraine – five days a week, but in recent years has been absent from her show on Fridays.

The satirical X page Where is Lorraine? – with the handle of @LorraineKWatch – has over 26,000 followers, and posts updates on whether Lorraine is hosting her own show that day or not.

Their posts often go something like: ‘Lorraine Kelly hosted her own show this morning. Congratulations #Lorraine, you have hosted 32 out of 46 (69.6%) episodes this year.’

This year the account posted its  ‘Lorraine Wrapped’ on December 31, which revealed the Scottish presenter had hosted 59.7% of the episodes of her self-titled show in 2024.

While the account often goes viral, with many people amused by their oddly specific knowledge of Lorraine’s TV show comings and goings, Lorraine isn’t laughing anymore.

‘It’s really hurtful, actually. It really is. I’ve not spoken about it before. I’m a grafter and I work really hard and I’ve had to take Fridays off for the past year. I just thought it was weird to care so much,’ she said when asked about the account in an interview with The Guardian.

‘Initially, it was for my mum who has been ill. And it sort of brings you into line with everyone else because if you look at This Morning, everybody else does four days. And as I’m getting older, I want to do other things, more writing, all of that. Mate, I’ve been doing this for 40 years, working my arse off.’

The problem is that Lorraine’s show is self-titled, so when she isn’t presenting it there is arguably grounds for comedy.

‘I get that. I get that 100% because This Morning is just called This Morning and GMB is just GMB,’ Lorraine said.

‘Maybe it just started off as a wee joke, but it’s the way that everyone piles on. It starts off as a wee tiny thing and it gets bigger and bigger. I find it really sad.’

Previously Lorraine spoke about the account on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, when she said: ‘The amount of space I occupy in people’s heads is quite bizarre. It’s hilarious.

‘It’s fine, I don’t mind, I don’t care, I probably would have cared before but I really don’t now. It’s absolutely fine.’

Adding why she takes time away from the show, Lorraine said : ‘To be honest, you should never comment on things like that if you don’t know what is going on in people’s lives, but I am having to take quite a few Fridays off because my mum really isn’t well.

‘So I can go home now and spend some more time with her and help her a bit more than I’ve been able to. That’s happening just now, but that will change.’

Speaking to Metro about their standpoint in response to Lorraine’s Woman’s Hour comments, the anonymous creator of Where Is Lorraine? said in January: ‘I hope it doesn’t come across as being critical because it wasn’t meant to be like that.’

They added: ‘It is a joke at the end of the day. It was never meant to be serious.’

Making their position clear, the poster said: ‘I’m not slagging her off for not going to work, or shaming her for not hosting the show, but I just think it is funny that Lorraine is the name of the show. If it wasn’t called Lorraine I wouldn’t care.’

Metro has contacted the X account Where Is Lorraine for comment.
