Netflix UK is just a handful of weeks away from taking away five seasons of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit from the site.

The crime procedural has released 26 seasons and counting since it started airing in 1999 and amassed a devoted fanbase over the years – with new viewers joining all the time.

The show centres on the NYPD detectives investigating sexually-based crimes, has been nominated for over 20 Emmys and is longest-running primetime live-action drama in US history.

Sadly, for those who have been introduced to the drama through Netflix, or have been planning to finally get around to it – its time on the streamer is nearing its end.

Currently, Netflix offers five seasons – The Sixth Year, The Seventh Year, The Ninth Year, The Tenth Year and The Eleventh Year – which have already been removed from the US, with the UK following at its heels.

Now, fans from across the pond are joining.

‘…Now Netflix is removing law & order SVU. WHAT DID I DO WRONG,’ @ashleysrep_ complained.

‘Law and Order SVU binge I blame Netflix for warning me that it’s being taken off next month So it’s like a task I NEED to finish,’ Rachael declared.

SVU – one of seven in the Law & Order franchise – has received plenty of praise over the years.

‘This is my number one show. Nothing will ever come before [this] show. I have watched every season every episode. If I had the time I would go back and binge watch it again,’ Google review user Deshay Torres wrote.

‘I AM GLAD I FOUND THIS SHOW!!!!! I love the character development and the anatomy of how the job looks like.

‘I love that they don’t portray them as bad/good, but there will be moments where they aren’t the best versions of themselves, which got me more invested into the show,’ Leah Gebrehiwot echoed.

‘Hands down with out a doubt one of the greatest tv shows EVER broadcasted on network television & quite possibly the best.

‘Never afraid to take deep dives into sensitive hard hitting topics & issues that hopefully sparks viewers to actually ponder & give real thought to what they just saw,’Chad Simmons added.

‘I love this show! It’s interesting, binge worthy, and suspenseful. There’s always an interesting turn of events that keeps you hooked on watching,’ Akemi Sakamoto commented.

For viewers who have been meaning to get round to watching the series, there is still some time to do a frantic catch-up before it disappears.

For those who are all caught up, we’re yet to hear news on the show’s renewal for a 27th season.

In a interview with US Weekly in January, veteran cast member Ice-T said: ‘I don’t see any reason why SVU can’t go 30 [seasons]. I think the show will stay on as long as Mariska [Hargitay, lead star] wants to do the show. It’s her show.’

Meanwhile, for UK viewers hoping to catch the latest season, it will arrive on Sky Witness on April 3.

Law & Order: SVU leaves Netflix UK on April 14.
