Netflix has shared the trailer for their upcoming documentary investigating OceanGate’s doomed final deep-sea voyage to the Titanic, which resulted in the deaths of five people.

The upcoming documentary film Titan: The OceanGate Disaster is set to reveal a catalogue of safety concerns and mistakes by OceanGate boss Stockton Rush, who was among the five killed when the submersible imploded.

The company took thrill-seekers with deep pockets to the North Atlantic Ocean floor to look upon the world’s most fabled shipwreck, but the deep-sea exploration ended in catastrophe in June 2023.

The new Netflix documentary looks to answer the question of what went wrong in the years before the four-day search for the missing vessel and, if the trailer is anything to go by, apportions blame to co-founder Stockton.

The trailer features archival footage and talking head whistleblower interviews, the first of which tells viewers: ‘It was a mathematical certainty that it would fail.’ It goes on to touch on Stockton’s quest to make deep-sea exploration a viable form of luxury tourism.

Director Mark Monroe told Netflix’s Tudum he was ‘horrified and mesmerised’ by the wall-to-wall news coverage and frenzied social media reaction when the submarine first went missing.
