Netflix thriller soars in UK chart – but be warned of its 0% Rotten Tomatoes rating
'I wish I could give negative stars.'

2023 action thriller Mercy has soared to the top of the Netflix film charts – but it’s got a shocking Rotten Tomatoes score of 0%.
Behind The Super Mario Bros movie, Minions, and Despicable Me 3 in Netflix’s most watched films in the UK today comes Mercy – the film that was savaged by critics on its release two years ago.
Starring Jessica Jones’ Leah Gibson, Vikings’ Jonathan Rhys Meyers and John Voight, the action thriller follows a doctor and former military officer (Leah) who fights for her life when the Irish mafia overrule the hospital she works at and take her son.
However the film didn’t exactly land as hoped, as it was branded with a rare and very harsh 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with IMDb giving it a slightly more generous 4.5/10. Ouch.
Many viewers have asked for their time back after watching the thriller (Picture: Paramount/Everett/REX/Shutterstock) Get personalised updates on your favourite TV showsWake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro’s TV Newsletter.

‘There are some terrible movies around, including Mercy on Netflix, from the far fetched plot to the dodgy Irish accents. My toes are curling,’ said X user @Tranquil_Maria as Netflix released the film on its platform again.
In its Google reviews, viewer Miss Bandicoot reviewed it as ‘probably the worst movie I’ve ever seen’ while Micah Houghton called it an ‘insulting joke’.
‘This movie is my definition of the worst of movies to watch,’ added Manjar, while Kandrap said: ‘I wish I could give negative stars.’
However others weren’t so harsh, as viewer David gave it three stars, but did admit it ‘makes no sense’.
The consensus was summed up by Joe, who wrote on Google reviews: ‘I want the time this movie took away from me.’
John Voight stars in the film, which has quite spectacularly got 0% on Rotten Tomatoes (Picture: Paramount/Everett/REX/Shutterstock)Unfortunately for director Tony Dean Smith and writer Alex Wright, Mercy was also acknowledged at the 44th Golden Raspberry Awards (the Razzies), when Voight was given the satirical ‘worst actor’ award for his role in the movie.
Chatting to MovieFone as Mercy was released, Oscar-winner Voight said of his role in the film: ‘I was excited to work on this piece. I thought I could help it. When I came into it, I said, “Well, I think I can do something with this thing.”‘
Elsewhere, the most-watched series on Netflix in the UK at the moment are looking slightly more promising, with Toxic Town – starring Jodie Whittaker – on the top spot, alongside comedy Running Point and Meghan Markle’s new lifestyle documentary.
Mercy is available to watch on Netflix now.
