Richard Bacon has a blunt response to a viewer who accused him of acting ‘manic and weird’ during Question Time.

The former Blue Peter presenter, 49, was a panelist on the BBC’s topical debate show on Thursday night as he debated about US President Donald Trump with Greg Swenson, the chairman of Republicans Overseas UK.

At one point during the show, a viewer on X shared a screenscrab of Richard and wrote: ‘Something a bit manic and weird about Richard Bacon’s behaviour. #bbcqt’

It didn’t take long for the broadcaster to share the post with his own followers, as he simply quipped: ‘Always’.

While some people agreed with the original person, plenty of others came to Richard’s defence.

‘It’s called being energised and giving a s**t,’ argued one viewer, as a second person said: ‘I don’t recognise that at all.. I think he’s the only person making sense on the panel.’

And a third viewer even encouraged him to see if he could ‘get the gig to host’ Question Time itself.

During the broadcast, an audience member said that America ‘aren’t the allies that we used to think they were’, while Richard described Trump as a ‘frightening president’.

He then asked Swenson if ‘anything about him’ scares him, but he insisted ‘no’, with Richard again asking: ‘Nothing?’

Audience members starting laughing at the exchange, while Swenson argued: ‘He [Trump] is very candid and that is new. He is not a traditional politician, he is surely not a former diplomat at all.’

He also defended Trump’s tariffs on countries, which could potentially include the UK.

‘This is just reality. We have been protecting western Europe with our military, we cannot afford it anymore,’ he said.

‘We have been funding the six-week vacation in France in free healthcare by borrowing money every year to fund the trade deficits, so that’s just reality. This is a common sense president.’

Richard, and some of the live studio audience, gasped and laughed at his assessment, before the presenter replied: ‘A common sense president?’

Question Time airs Thursday nights on BBC One. Episodes are available to watch on iPlayer.
