Russell Brand is being sued over sex abuse allegations in the first-known lawsuit brought against him in the UK.

In 2023, four women accused the former comedian and actor, 49, of rape, assault and emotional abuse between 2006 and 2013, when he was at the height of his fame and starring in Hollywood films.

Brand vehemently denies the allegations and said all of his relationships have been ‘consensual.’

Allegations were investigated by the Met Police in London, which said it received a number of reports of sexual offences from women in London.

Evidence was then passed on to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), which confirmed in November it was considering bringing charges against Brand.

As of March, the CPS has not pressed charges against Brand.

Yesterday, The Sun reported that an anonymous claimant, believed to be a woman, has lodged a ‘personal injury sexual abuse’ case for damages at London’s High Court.

It is the first known time Brand has faced serious legal action in the UK relating to the charges.

Last month, a BBC review into Brand’s conduct during his time with the corporation found a number of people ‘felt unable to raise’ concerns about the presenter and believed he ‘would always get his way and therefore they stayed silent.’

The corporation apologised, and said it was of ‘great concern that some of these individuals’ felt they could not make complaints about Brand when he was on BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio 2 between 2006 and 2008.

The criminal inquiry began in September 2023 when four women made allegations of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse in a joint investigation from Channel 4’s Dispatches, The Sunday Times, and The Times.

In a video posted online the day before the claims were published, he accused the media of a ‘co-ordinated attack.’

Brand has not had a mainstream acting credit since 2023, according to IMDb, but instead posts on online platform Rumble after YouTube suspended his account from making money.

On Rumble, he embraces conspiracy theories and anti-establishment narratives.

Some of the most popular videos on Brand’s channel include suggesting a global Covid-19 cover-up and the Great Reset conspiracy theory which claims a global elite used the pandemic to enforce radical social change.

In July 2024, he was eviscerated online after an embarrassing takedown of Kamala Harris as he confused melanin and melatonin.

Last year, Brand was baptised in the Thames having turned to Christianity after facing ‘challenges’ in his life.

Metro has contacted Brand’s lawyer for comment.
