Scarlett Johansson is an incredible actress who recently became the world’s highest-grossing lead actor, but her accent in a new movie has struck a bad chord with English fans.

The 40-year-old actress has had an incredible year with the release of Jurassic World: Rebirth and is set to star in the new film My Mother’s Wedding opposite Sienna Miller and Kristin Scott Thomas.

However, a clip from the new film showcases the Lost In Translation’s English accent, and viewers were less than impressed.

‘The movie looks good – horrible accent aside,’ said melissa_keeps_writing, commenting on a clip from the film.

‘oh no … the accent is not great ????,’ said ferrisbuehler87.

‘Sorry ScarJo – we know you can do accents and good British accent before, but this one is terrible! Wrong choice, she was surrounded by British people should have told her,’ said ibrahimhoque.

‘I do not buy Scarlett being British at all. It really pulls you out of the film,’ said mcassidy22.

Alongside Scarlett Johansson, the film stars Sienna Miller, Emily Beecham, Freida Pinto, and Thibault de Montalembert.

The film is a directorial debut for Kristen Scott Thomas, and comes from a screenplay she co-wrote with John Micklethwait.

Unfortunately for Scarlett, this isn’t the first time she has been criticised for an English accent, having portrayed Brits on screen in The Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Other Boleyn Girl, and The Prestige.

After the release of The Prestige, Empire commented: ‘Scarlett Johansson, struggling so hard with an English accent she forgets to engage her audience, trilling the film’s only bum note.’

Her accents in The Prestige and The Girl with the Pearl Earring received less flak, only adding to the confusion when it comes to her inconsistent talent.

The star has been slated for her accents as she took on a New Jersey character in Don Jon and a Russian accent in the Marvel film Black Widow.

My Mother’s Wedding is set to be released in US cinemas on August 8.
