Sony dev accidentally reveals new game after five years of nothing

After having its God Of War live service game cancelled, Bluepoint Games thankfully has something new in the pipeline.
When people criticise the PlayStation 5 for having no games, what they’re really referring to is the strange dearth of exclusives from Sony’s own first party studios.
Considering the reports of multiple live service games getting canned, it’s widely believed that those studios were working on games as a service titles before then being taken off them again, when flops like Concord proved they weren’t the guaranteed hit Sony initially hoped for.
This has led to some studios going years without releasing anything, such as Demon’s Souls remake developer Bluepoint Games. But if a new job listing is anything to go by, that should hopefully change sooner rather than later.
The Demon’s Souls remake was a PlayStation 5 launch title in 2020, which means Bluepoint hasn’t made anything else the whole generation. Game development is time consuming nowadays, but whereas other studios have since released or announced new projects, Bluepoint has been mostly silent.
Bluepoint still hasn’t officially said anything but, as so often happens, they’ve revealed details of their next project in a job listing – featuring information they’ve never discussed publicly.
The listing is for a senior combat designer and mentions ‘[designing] enemy and boss-type characters and [refining] engaging combat systems and mechanics.’

It also sounds like the project is a third person action game, since the ideal applicant would possess a ‘solid understanding of combat systems and mechanics for third person melee action experiences.’
Hopefully, this is a traditional single-player experience, but the listing doesn’t specify whether that’s the case or if this is yet another live service game.
An unannounced God Of War game was next on Bluepoint’s schedule until Sony gave it the axe (Sony Interactive Entertainment)Back in 2021, in the wake of Sony’s acquisition of Bluepoint, the studio did say its next game would be something entirely original, ruling out another remake or remaster, which have been Bluepoint’s bread and butter since its inception.
However, there’s no telling if that project even exists anymore, since Bluepoint has been spending the last several years on a God Of War live service game instead; one Sony cancelled in January.
It’s possible Bluepoint was juggling both, but it’s equally likely that its original project was cancelled so the studio could focus on the live service game, especially since such projects are (or were) a major priority for Sony.
If not and this job listing is for something brand new, then Bluepoint’s next game is even further off and probably won’t launch till after the PlayStation 6 is released in 2027.
Bluepoint isn’t the only one to have gone this long without a new game. Bend Studio released Days Gone in 2019 and was meant to be doing its own live service game, only for that to be cancelled alongside Bluepoint’s.
According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Bend Studio started working on something new in June, but there’s nothing to indicate what it is and since roughly 40 people were let go, shrinking the team by 30%, it’s probably not going to arrive anytime soon.
Sony's Bend studio, which canceled a live-service game earlier this year, is laying off 30% of staff today (around 40 people), Bloomberg News has learned. The studio has been spinning up a new project following the cancellation.
