X Factor stars Jamaal Shurland and Shereen Cutkelvin have announced they will marry nearly a decade after appearing on the ITV show.

Rak-Su singer Jamaal, 32, competed against his future bride Shereen, 28, who was in band The Cutkelvins in 2017.

The RnB group were crowned champions of the competition series, while Shereen and her two bandmates finished in fifth place after reaching the semi-finals.

Both Rak-Su and The CutKelvins were mentored by X Factor supremo Simon Cowell, 65, who oversaw the group category that year.

On Instagram, the couple announced they got engaged eight years after appearing on the show.

Alongside a slideshow of herself flashing her ring and cuddling up to Jamaal, Shereen wrote: ‘The proposal. It all happened in my childhood town, weather was freezing (hence the red noses) with an amazing view of the moon ???? it was completely unexpected (hence the no manicure lol).’

Neon Jungle singer Aasami Zdrenka commented: ‘Oh my godddddd congratulations ???????? so happy for you both ❤️❤️❤️.’

Echoing Aasami’s sentiment, digital creator influencer Moyo J Ajibade, aka YourBoyMoyo, said: ‘Congrats ????.’

Love Island star Biggs-Marvin Chris added: ‘Congratulations ????????????.’

After winning the X Factor, Rak-Su had a number two single, Dimelo, which featured Naughty Boy and Wyclef Jean.

In 2019, they were dropped by their record label RCA after they reportedly failed to secure mainstream release.

Rak-Su now releases music as independent artists – as recently as Valentine’s Day when they collaborated with Late Checkout on song Eastside.

Meanwhile, The Cutkelvins were a family super-group consisting of Shereen and her siblings Kyle and Jay.

Shereen had previously been a member of girlband Neon Jungle, along with Asami, Amira McCarthy and Jessica Plummer.

They were best known for their single Braveheart which peaked at number four in the UK chart in 2014.

That same year, Neon Jungle released their debut and only album Welcome to the Jungle.

It spawned top ten hit Welcome to the Jungle and top 20 entries Trouble and Louder.

However, the group split in 2015 shortly after their contract with RCA Records was terminated.

Shereen now works as a presenter on shows including CBBC’s Saturday Mash-Up! and various BBC radio programmes.
