Robert Trebor, who was best known for his appearances in beloved 90s TV shows, has died of sepsis, his wife has announced.

Trebor’s wife, Deirdre Hennings, confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the actor died at Los Angeles Medical Center from sepsis on March 11.

His death comes after he was diagnosed with leukemia in 2012 and had a stem-cell transplant in 2013.

The actor, 71, was beloved in his role as Salmoneus in the television series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess.

He appeared in 20 episodes across the first five seasons of Hercules from 1995 until 1999.

He also appeared in four episodes of its sister show, Xena: Warrior Princess, from 1996 to 1999.

Speaking about his time on the show in a 2005 interview, he revealed that his character Salmoneus was written for him.

‘Salmoneus was written for me by the producers of Hercules in the fall of ’94. I was originally to appear in two episodes.

‘Before [the episode] wrapped, they asked my availability to appear in two of the three Xena guest star episodes on Hercules to be shot in January of ’95.

‘So actually I was cast in the Xena episodes before Lucy [Lawless] was cast as Xena!’

Trebor is also known for playing the Son of Sam killer in Out of the Darkness and playing a serial killer in the 1987 American comedy horror film My Demon Lover.

The actor also appeared in 52 Pickup, Making Mr. Right, Talk Radio, and Hail, Caesar.
