Channel 4 axes ‘best’ British horror show ever after just one season
The show was branded 'excellent.'

Channel 4 has made the brutal decision to cancel an ‘excellent’ Zombie series after just one season.
Viewers will be devastated over the demise of Generation Z, which they had described as a ‘staple’ of the comedy-horror genre.
The six-parter aired last year and followed the misadventures of a group of OAP residents who turn into Zombies after being infected by a chemical leak in Dambury.
Hungry for the blood of the fictional town’s younger residents, they hunt down their Gen Z counterparts in a biting satire that critiques Brexit and intergenerational warfare.
Created by gore supremo Ben Whatley, famed for the absurdly enjoyable shark franchise The Meg, Generation Z stars some of the UK’s most celebrated actors, including Robert Lindsay, Anita Dobson and Johnny Vegas.
However, a source claimed Channel 4 has axed the show after it failed to ‘win everyone over.’
They told The Sun: ‘It had seemed with Cecily being reborn, there was more to come in this series. The fate of a lot of the other characters in Dambury was also left unclear.
‘But Channel 4 decided to put this one on the shelf, and there are no plans to bring it back.
‘That’s certain to be disappointing news for those who did like it — many likening it to a bizarre spin-off of hugely popular American zombie drama The Walking Dead.’
Generation Z’s fans will be disappointed by the update after previously raving about the series online.
On Google, Andrew Helm exclaimed: ‘Probably the best British Zombies series ever. Excellent idea when Elder people became Zombie with super human powers feeding on the youngest people. Make sense about the virus biological Weapon accidentally released. Black comedy with Violence blood and gore.’

Storytelling that doesn’t shy away from breaking into a gallop and some visceral gore.Ben Wheatley and his talented cast and crew have created a fresh take on the Zombie genre, and I’m absolutely here for it.’
Over on Reddit, user bellandhunter wrote: ‘This is a very British programme and the first episode absolutely blew me away. I’m part way through the second episode and now the fundamentals are in place the comedy is really starting. Excellent writing, fantastic cast, good British humour.’
Agreeing, CheesyJapsEye said: ‘This program is going to be a staple in British zombie comedy/horror. It’s got it all. Dumb gen Z [stuff], county lines, gore and just the perfect capture of modern day Britain. It’s awesome!’
Generation Z is not the only Channel 4 show to have been given the chop over the past week.
Comedian James Acaster recently revealed that the broadcaster had hit the brakes on a game show he was set to present.
Channel 4 is said to have cancelled the show after it failed to ‘win everyone over’ (Picture: Channel 4)Last summer, he filmed the pilot for People Person, which followed a panel of comedians attempting to answer questions about members of the public, who were in with the chance to win a share of a prize fund too.
However, after a series of disasters, the 40-year-old revealed Channel 4 had decided against ordering the full series.
‘It was three hours of filming, and I’d say everything went wrong that could have gone wrong,’ James said on the Always Be Comedy podcast.
‘At one point I said to the audience, “I think what they should do is just take these three hours, cut them up into six half hours in real time and put it out as a series”.
Some of the mishaps that unfolded while filming included one of the contestant’s boyfriends – a wrestler – needed multiple takes after breaking a sugar glass vase too early and also requiring first aid.
Metro has contacted Channel 4 for comment.
Generation Z is available to stream on Channel 4.
