Claudia Winkleman broke down in tears after a father and daughter duo walked away with £100,000 on Channel 4 show One Question.

Lancashire-based Dave and Emily took part in the competition in Friday’s episode, and made show history in just six minutes.

The general knowledge quiz show sees players asked just one question and given 16 possible answers.

But Dave and Emily didn’t need all the suggested answers when quizzed on: ‘What is Smith?’ with the correct one being the author of The Hundred and One Dalmations.

As they deliberated, Claudia, 53, said: ‘If you know it, you’ll win awards for not even looking at the other answers.’

‘You do whatever you want, but that’s £100,000. That’s a bungalow, and that’s your wife doing cartwheels,’ she told them.

The Traitors host struggled to contain her emotions as they submitted their answer and she said: ‘I can’t cope. I’m sorry I can’t leave. You are amazing.

‘I’m sorry I don’t know why I want to cry, this is ridiculous.’

She continued: ‘This has never happened before in One Question history. You can absolutely say that is the answer. If you are right, I give you £100,000.

‘You phone your wife immediately, you phone your partner immediately. I go home for a lie down.’

Dave threw his support behind his daughter, who went with her gut (Picture: Channel 4) They knew the answer without even seeing all the possibilities (Picture: Channel 4) Claudia could barely contain her excitement (Picture: Channel 4)

Going with her ‘gut feeling’, Emily knew the answer was Dodie Smith, and was supported by her dad in submitting it, as he said: ‘Doesn’t matter either way, I’ll still love you.’

As they won the jackpot prize, Strictly Come Dancing presenter Claudia couldn’t contain herself, saying: ‘Oh my gosh… What a brain! That has never happened before.

‘Your brain served you well and do you know what else did? Your dad who just sat next to you and said, “I’ve got your back, go for it.”

‘That’s life-changing money. That’s a lot of money and you did that in under six minutes.’

She continued: ‘What I need you to glean from this is you two need to play more quizzes. How extraordinary.’

As Claudia asked contestant Dave how he felt about the big win, the Lancastrian broke down in tears and said: ‘I’m just happy for her [daughter Emily].’

Previously talking about this series’ big win, Claudia had said: ‘I did cry. I don’t really cry because I’m over 50, wearing too much fake tan and too much eyeliner, but it was a proper moment.

‘It was a proper moment for everyone in the studio and that’s when you know it’s good.’
