Previous Page Next PageHe’s one of the biggest musicians on the planet, but Ed Sheeran has insisted his work life is more routine than you’d think.
The 34-year-old singer songwriter, who has returned this week with brand new single Azizam, has opened up on his process and revealed he actually sticks to a very ordinary ‘working day’.
Ed, who has daughters Lyra, four, and Jupiter, two, with wife Cherry Seaborn, was determined to make sure his job didn’t take over his role as a father and husband.
‘I think it is so important, yeah. I’ve switched my working day because music is very fluid, and you could start studio at 8pm and finish at 8am sort of thing,’ he told Heart’s Mark Wright and Olly Murs.
‘But I’ve got a strict working day of 9 to 5 so I can live a relatively normal life, and I think that has made a huge difference.
‘I feel like I’m a working dad. I go to work at nine and I come back at five and live life normally.’

‘Largely, there’s a lot of songs that get left to the side,’ he admitted. ‘I try and write every single week, and if I get a song a month, I’m happy.’
Ed penned his new single Azizam – and much of his upcoming album Play – a couple of years ago, and has been sitting on the tracks ever since to make sure everything was spot on.
‘I wrote it in 2023 on the USA tour. And to be honest I’ve sat on most of this record for about two years to really, really get this all right,’ he explained.
‘It’s been a long time since I’ve done pop properly, and I just wanted to do it properly and get it planned.’

‘There’s definitely surprises. I try not to do any collaborations on the actual record-records,’ he explained.
‘But I worked a lot with this Indian singer called Arijit Singh who is really good and really wonderful. But he basically lives in the middle of nowhere in India.
‘It is basically a three-hour flight and then a five-and-a-half-hour drive. And I was in India with my dad and he was like, “Well if you want the vocals you have to come to me.”‘
