Gogglebox viewers fume at star for ‘unbearable’ Stephen Graham comment
'Sheesh Mary.'

Gogglebox star Mary Killen has raised eyebrows over a comment she made about Stephen Graham while watching the hit show Adolescence.
Mary, who appears on the Channel 4 show alongside her husband Giles Wood, was filmed watching the Netflix series on Friday evening’s episode.
Co-written by Graham, Adolescence – which follows the Miller family as their 13-year-old son Jamie is accused of murdering a teenage girl – prompted a national conversation about misogyny in schools and the dangers of the online world.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer has backed a campaign to show Adolescence in schools, and its been described as a ‘watershed’ moment in the conversation about children and smartphone use.
Tonight, Adolescence fans tuned in to watch Gogglebox stars take in the drama for the first time, and it struck a chord, with X user @mattfinished writing: ‘Gogglebox watching Adolescence makes it even more powerful.’
Watching was particularly difficult for new 2024 Gogglebox family Michael, Sally, and their sons Jake and Harry, as the parents both wiped away tears at the end of the first episode.
Gogglebox viewers weren’t happy with Mary for referring to Stephen Graham as ‘that actor who always plays short Northerners’ (Picture: Channel 4) Stephen plays a tortured dad Eddie Miller in the Netflix show (Picture: Netflix)However, Mary caused a stir online when she referred to show creator Graham – and one of the most celebrated actors in the UK – as ‘that actor who always plays short northerners’.
‘”Always plays short northerners,”‘ echoed @mechocolatelove on X, commenting: ‘@Channel4 I’ll never stop praying for you to get rid of Giles and Mary. Unbearable.’
‘He always plays short Northerners Really?? Sheesh Mary,’ commented @cosmoksmom.
Another poster, @terrettcorey, quoted Mary alongside the crying face emoji.
