Hollywood legend, 64, has no regrets about falling in love with nephew’s ex-girlfriend
'I was in love with her, that’s the thing.'
Damon Wayans Sr. has raised eyebrows with his recent confession about his nephew’s ex-girlfriend.
During an interview on an episode of the Club Shay Shay podcast, the star shared that he once dated his nephew’s ex-girlfriend.
‘I was in love with her, that’s the thing,’ Damon, 64, recalled, before jokingly asking the host, former NFL star Shannon Sharpe, ‘You ain’t never done the Jackson 5?’ — a reference to when Jermaine Jackson infamously married brother Randy Jackson’s ex-girlfriend, Alejandra Oaziaza.
When Shannon, 56, seemed taken aback by the revelation, Damon defended himself by saying that his nephew had not been in love with the woman.
He did not disclose which of his nephews he was referring to nor the identity of the ex-girlfriend.
The relationship was over 20 years ago, beginning around 2001 after he had split from his ex-wife, Lisa Thorner.

‘I got divorced and I was by myself for two years,’ he said. ‘And then I saw her [his nephew’s ex] and I was just like, “Oh my God. I’m in love.” And then I found out my nephew had dated [her].’
He clarified that he pursued the woman with the blessing of his nephew.
‘I’m like, you know, “What’s up?” and he’s like, “That’s you.” And I’m like, “Okay, pass the Courvoisier, let’s go!” And I went ahead and I fell in love and it was okay,’ he said before saying light-heartedly, ‘Family gatherings is awkward.’

His older brother, Keenen Ivory Wayans, 66, wrote and created the sketch comedy show In Living Color, which rocketed several of the siblings to fame.
His son Damon Wayans Jr., who rose to fame on the hit sitcom New Girl, 42, is also a big star and has appeared with his father in several projects.
Damon’s brother, Marlon Wayans, 52, has also worked with Damon as has their sister Kim Wayans, 63.
The family is also known for the Scary Movie franchise, created by Keenen Ivory Wayans and starring Marlon and Shawn Wayans.
