Diane von Fürstenberg shocked fans after revealing she has a dramatic black eye that ‘does not look good’.

The fashion designer, 78, looked slightly dazed as she showed off a deep purple bruise around her eye with the lid swollen and drooping.

‘Upon arrival in LA, I fell on the pavement and hit my forehead!’ she said to her 463,000 followers on Instagram.

While the shiner certainly looked painful, Diane appeared to be unfazed as she added: ‘Does not look good for sure but grateful nothing more serious!!!’

Despite being in bed, the fashion icon who is best known for pioneering the wrap dress, was still in a lacy top with a necklace which said ‘in charge’.

Diane added: ‘I am owning it, applying lots of arnica gel and happy it was not worse!! Owning it is the secret of survival!’

The fashion powerhouse rose to prominence in the late 60s after marrying Prince Egon von Fürstenberg, who she split from in 1972.

She began designing clothes as she wanted to have a career outside of her high-profile marriage and was listed for New York Fashion Week after meeting Vogue’s Diana Vreeland.

In 1974, Diane introduced a collection of wrap dresses, selling one million dresses in two years and solidifying herself as a legend.

She was the subject of a Disney Plus documentary, Woman in Charge, last year, highlighting her extensive career and personal life.

The film included interviews with some of Diane’s famous colleagues and friends, including Marc Jacobs, Oprah Winfrey, and Hillary Clinton.

A source told Page Six the accident occurred outside her daughter’s home after falling on the street.

They reassured that the Belgium designer is ‘fine’ but ‘is just very bruised’, adding: ‘She is someone who posts daily and owning a fall is part of life.’

In response to her Instagram post, famous friends and concerned fans sent their well wishes.

Former British Vogue editor Edward Enninful wrote: ”Feel better Diane! So sorry ❤️.’

‘You poor thing!’ the singer Jewel added. ‘I had a dog once jump up as I was going down to pet it — broke my orbital bone and gave me the worst black eye! But all you can do is own it! ❤️❤️‍????’

‘Oh Diane!!!! I’m so glad not worse [sic]. Love you!!!!’ said Tracee Ellis Ross, star of Black-ish.
