Remember Monday won’t win Eurovision tonight – but they’ve proved the UK can
The girl group have impressed many already.

It’s been a brutal decade for the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Before the turn of the century, the UK finished within the Top 10 every single year bar three. Then, tides started to turn, and in the past 25 years, there’s only been three top 10 results.
In 2003, 2008, 2010, 2019 and 2021, we also picked up the unenviable position of last place, with two of those including the dreaded ‘nul points’.
Despite it seeming Sam Ryder had turned things around with his second placing in 2022, the past two years have seen the UK’s standings back at the bottom end again.
But after watching Remember Monday – the 2025 UK act – rehearse for tonight’s Grand Final, I’m convinced the girl band will see us soar into the Top 10 again – even if I don’t think we’ll win.
For those unfamiliar with the trio – Lauren Byrne, Holly-Anne Hull, and Charlotte Steele – they formed 14 years ago after meeting in high school and have since appeared on The Voice UK and supported Billy Joel.

Remember Monday previously told Metro they ‘weren’t in Eurovision for the points’ after being told their odds to win were highly unlikely. Current odds show them finishing in 11th place, but with a 1% chance of winning.
However, seeing them live in St Jakobshalle Arena in Basel has me sure the UK doesn’t have to go into the final anxious about facing another uphill battle.
They have all performed on the West End (Lauren in Phantom of the Opera, Holly-Anne in Six: The Musical and Charlotte in Mary Poppins).

They know how to work a stage in a way that nods back to their theatre backgrounds.
Admittedly it’s taken a while for their song to grow on me. At first it felt like there was just too much going on and it was hard to keep up with the tempo changes.
But in recent weeks it’s slowly made its way into my most listened to songs and while I can’t quite put my finger on what changed, I’m glad to say I now agree with Metro writer Robert Oliver’s review of it being ‘bold as brass’.

While their songs isn’t the usual pop tune that Eurovision fans throw their support behind, it stands apart in amongst the 20 tracks, which include genres like rock, dance and folk.
Their costumes are bright and fun (with a modern Bridgerton type feel) and props like a chandelier and mirror play into the fun and upbeat message of the song. It’s by no means the most attention-grabbing or stand-out Eurovision song or performance this year, but it’s a hell of a lot better than what we’re used to.
After they performed during Semi Final 2 on Thursday night, many viewers agreed.

Admittedly though, I think it’s unlikely the girls will win as the competition is so incredibly fierce this year.
Odds currently have Sweden, Austria and France in the lead, but I think a dark horse like Malta or Finland might race ahead and pip them at the post.
Securing a decent public vote is generally difficult for the UK but Remember Monday have also been doing everything right ahead of time too – going on an impressive promotional tour and picking up fans while travelling and performing across Europe.
Odds currently give them a 1% chance of winning (Picture: BBC Studios/ Rob Parfitt)Selecting a girl group with a background in country music may have been a risky move, but it’s paid off to date (their official music video has amassed an impressive 2.3 million views too).
This year marks the 66th time the UK has entered Eurovision. Since joining in 1957, it’s won a total of five times.
The first came in 1967 with Sandie Shaw’s Puppet On A String, Lulu’s Boom Bang-a-Bang in 1969, Brotherhood of Man’s Save Your Kisses For Me in 1976, Bucks Fizz with Making Your Mind Up in 1981 and Katrina & The Waves last won with Love Shine A Light in 1997.
Despite it being unlikely 2025 will be the year Remember Monday locks in the latest win for the UK, they will hopefully mark a turning point in our fortunes.
The Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final airs tonight at 8pm on BBC One.
