Previous Page Next PageSam Thompson is still getting used to life as a single man after splitting from Zara McDermott.
The Made in Chelsea alum, 32, and former Love Island star, 28, are believed to have broken up over the festive season after five years together, much to the devastation of fans.
While documentary maker Zara has yet to comment publicly on their separation, TV presenter Sam has been vocal about the impact the fallout has had on him emotionally.
Speaking on the latest episode of his podcast Staying Relevant, Sam confessed he is ‘terrified’ about the future while seeking guidance from relationship expert and Celebs Go Dating’s Paul Brunson.
Paul, who has his own therapy podcast, We Need To Talk, was filling in for Strictly’s Pete Wicks while he holidays in Dubai in the wake of a scandal involving ex Maura Higgins and McFly’s Danny Jones.
Urging Paul to counsel him through his breakup, Sam began: ‘I went through a breakup and everyone keeps saying they can see sadness behind the eyes.’

‘The way I see it, I am a plane and the pilot has passed out in the cockpit and they are like, “Does anyone know how to fly a plane?”‘
In response, Paul told the I’m A Celebrity champ: ‘The first thing you have to do is identify the emotion and sit in it.’
Making it perfectly clear what exactly that emotion is for him, Sam interrupted: ‘Horrible.’
Paul went on to explain: ‘Self-love is like the roots of the tree and self-esteem is like the trunk of the tree.’

Sam told him that he’s not ready to think about dating yet and while ‘a lot of people look for another person to instantly fill the hole’ he ‘can’t’ face that at the moment.
Paul urged Sam to think about what he values in life, describing values as the ‘sunlight and nutrients’ to aid with self-love practices.
Beyond his creativity, Sam said he is a ‘real homebody’.
‘I love my cats, and being around my family and being in my home, I barely ever go out,’ he stated after Zara moved out of their Chelsea home, where Sam still looks after their two cats occasionally.

‘Tap into some of the things you loved as a boy. Tap into those and spend time doing those and that is going to increase the self-esteem and self-worth, which is what you need right now.’
The therapist was also on hand to boost Sam’s confidence, telling him he doesn’t need to ‘change’ to be more like friend Pete, whose dating history is pretty colourful and has been well documented.
‘You are emerging as the sexy one,’ Paul complimented. ‘I am telling you, you are good. You continue to be you. People love you for you.’
While Sam works on building himself back up post-breakup, it’s believed Zara is already moving on romantically.
It’s been reported that Zara is already moving on after the breakup (Picture: Instagram)She was recently spotted with Emily in Paris star Lucien Laviscount at the Brit Awards, with a source claiming: ‘He seemed really smitten. Zara clearly enjoyed his company, as she couldn’t stop smiling and laughing.’
Not long after, though, rumours started swirling that Zara is dating One Direction star Louis Tomlinson.
The pair randomly followed one another on Instagram, leading fans to believe they could be growing close.
