A new horror movie sequel has been met with huge praise from critics, and an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score, days before the release.

More than 25 years after the original film premiered, Final Destination: Bloodlines, the sixth instalment in the terrifying franchise, is set to hit the big screen on May 14 in the UK.

The flick, directed by Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky, broke records when the trailer was released in March, quickly becoming the second most-watched horror teaser of all time with more than 178million views in the first 24 hours.

The footage unveiled the latest group of victims hoping to throw a spanner in Death’s vengeful plan, after learning that that they were ‘never supposed to exist’

Kaitlyn Santa Juana leads the cast alongside Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Owen Patrick Joyner, Anna Lore and Rya Kihlstedt – Bloodlines also serves as Tony Todd’s final role after the horror icon died last year.

Early reviews have started rolling in, with the follow-up already boasting an incredible 91% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Tim Robey of the Daily Telegraph commended: ‘Staggeringly grisly, Michelin-star-worthy fan service.

‘It’s like the lid being whisked back on a silver tureen full of mashed body parts. Hideous, hilarious, and — boy oh boy — not for the squeamish.’

‘For long-running fans or brand-new ones, Final Destination: Bloodlines proves there’s plenty of life left in this series,’ Ian Sandwell from Digital Spy agreed.

The Hollywood Reporter’s Frank Scheck penned: ‘The combination of CGI and practical effects works seamlessly, and the sequences are sadistically edited for maximum tension, which is thankfully relieved by frequent doses of mordant humor.’

‘With horror franchises constantly coming back from the dead, Bloodlines is one of the freshest we’ve seen in a while,’ Emma Kiely from Collider added.

‘It’s the perfect blend of going back to basics and cooking up something new, drenched in blood and snapping bones.’

Final Destination first hit the big screen in 2000, focusing on Devon Sawa’s Alex Browning – who had a premonition on board a doomed flight to Paris and scrambled to get his peers off the plane.

Unfortunately for the gang, they found themselves stalked by Death and dying in eerily random freak occurrences as revenge for messing up the plan.

Critics warned that it is ‘not for the squeamish’ (Picture: Warner Bros) The sequel marked Tony Todd’s final film role (Picture: Warner Bros)

It became a huge success and grossed more than $112million at the global box office – spawning a string of equally terrifying sequels.

The official Bloodlines synopsis reads: ‘The newest chapter in New Line Cinema’s bloody successful franchise takes audiences back to the very beginning of Death’s twisted sense of justice.

‘Plagued by a violent recurring nightmare, college student Stefanie heads home to track down the one person who might be able to break the cycle and save her family from the grisly demise that inevitably awaits them all.’

Final Destination: Bloodlines is released in cinemas on May 14.
