TV fans rush to binge Amazon Prime thriller storming ‘most-watched’ chart
Aldis Hodge plays the legendary fictional detective.

TV fans have sent a new crime thriller to the top of the charts on Amazon Prime, with detective drama Cross storming to 10th place three months after its release.
Based on the series of novels by crime novelist James Patterson, Cross follows forensic psychologist and DC Metro detective Alex Cross as he investigates the murder of a prominent Black Lives Matter activist.
The show stars Aldis Hodge as Cross – stepping into shoes previously filled by Morgan Freeman and Tyler Perry, who played the detective in the films Kiss The Girls (1997), Along Came a Spider (2001) and Alex Cross (2012).
Directed by Ben Watkins, the eight-episode series also stars Isaiah Mustafa as Cross’s partner, John Sampson, and Ryan Eggold as the unsettling Ed Ramsay.
Released in November 2024 on Amazon Prime, the series has obtained mixed reviews in the months following, with some struggling to reconcile the TV show’s character work with that of the books.
However, its viewing figures have been healthy enough to earn Cross a place in the streaming platform’s charts.

‘If you have Amazon prime, Cross is pretty good. Unfortunately it’s only one season. It gets you thinking though!’ wrote bobby_joneslove.
‘Working through it now, and I genuinely enjoy it – it seems like a pretty solid and enjoyable show,’ wrote chriscotttt on Reddit.
‘I finished the whole series in like 2 days, really enjoyed it. Last episode was dumb, but the rest of it was really good,’ said imrany.

It boasts a similarly positive score among audiences, who highlighted Aldis’s performance as the detective for praise.
‘A total surprise – didn’t expect an Amazon Prime show to get so dark and layered. There’s a lot of silly camp, but it’s fun to play into the power elite secret society trope,’ wrote one user, contributing to its 65% Popcornmeter score on the website.
Some have demanded that Aldis be cast as James Bond (Picture: Amazon Prime)In the wake of the show’s release, impressed fans have taken to social media to demand the show’s star be cast as another literary icon – none other than James Bond.
Impressed by the hunk’s suave performance in an interrogation scene, viewers were convinced that Aldis had all of the energy and charisma required to play cinema’s most famous spy.
‘Aldis Hodge as James Bond is not a want, it’s a need!’ wrote one fan on X after bingeing the episodes in question.
However, odds aren’t great for the star, who previously dismissed speculation, telling Esquire: ‘I don’t think I can be Bond. I think you have to be British or European as like a requirement to play Bond.’
‘But I’m gonna get my accent game up, though. ‘Bond, James Bond.’ I gotta work on that.’
