Becky Lynch couldn’t resist teasing a rising WWE star for some similarities in their presentation.

Welsh wrestler Nixon Newell has recalled when she first chose the name Tegan Nox, which is inspired by both her heritage and love for Harry Potter, in 2018 and how the Raw icon gave her a lighthearted roasting after she first got called up to the main roster in 2021.

Opening up on her conversation with Becky, who used the name Rebecca Knox on the independent scene, Nixon exclusively told Metro: ‘She was away, and I had the flamed-coloured hair, like red, yellows, oranges, just this big red hair.

‘And when she came back, she went, “Oh, so not only you’re stealing my hair, but you’re stealing my name too!”

‘I was like, “No, no, no, no, I can change, no, Nox is a Harry Potter spell, this hair is red, it’s not orange, I promise!”

‘She’s like, “I’m ribbing you, it’s fine.” I was like, [breathing a sigh of relief] “Oh, okay! Because I will go shave my head right now!” ‘

Nixon was speaking to us in her first interview since her WWE release in November, which set up by CryptoManiaks Sports.

She admitted she was panicked in the moment, until she realised Becky was just kidding.

She said: ‘I s**t myself, excuse my language! But I was like, “Oh god”, she’s walked up to me and stared at me. I was like, “Oh, what have I done? What have I done?”

‘And then she was saying all that. I was like, “Oh, my God, oh God”, but she was just kidding. I was like, “It’s spelled differently and it’s a Harry Potter spell, is that ok?” ‘

The name did mean a lot to Nixon, who pitched a lot of Welsh names along with the Harry Potter reference.

When Becky was NXT Women’s Champion in 2023, she pushed to work with Nixon as she used her run with the title to highlight underutilised talent on the roster.

The match was initially delayed due to The Man getting hurt, but even she told Nixon the setback would actually ‘work out well’ for them both as they had more time to build to a match.

However, despite being praised for the bout, the Welsh wrestler insisted she’s ‘not necessarily proud of that match’.

‘I think it could have gone a lot better on my end. That wasn’t my best performance, and I know it wasn’t. I was so incredibly nervous,’ she candidly admitted.

‘I think that’s one of the few times that my nerves got the better than me in a match. So, I would have loved to have been able to run that back.’

She’s still ‘incredibly grateful’ for the opportunity work with and learn ‘so much’ from Becky over the short stint.

‘She’s such a nice person, she asked for all the people that she wanted to work with, which is wild, for her to even go, “I want to work with Nixon,”‘ she smiled, noting that ‘Bayley does the same’ in terms of pitching her opponents.

She insisted she ”could have done so much better’ in the match with Becky, although she’s glad fans were impressed.

‘I think even though it wasn’t my best performance, it made people go, “Oh, she can actually wrestle”. I’m like, “Yes, and I can do better than that, if you give me the chance,”‘ she said.

‘Unfortunately, I never got the chance to show that. But that entire situation with Becky was just mind blowing, and something that I will hold very dear to me, not just the rest of my career, but for the rest of my life.’

Nixon insisted Becky ‘fought tooth and nail’ to give her the opportunity, and she got the impression WWE creative didn’t have plans beyond that.

‘I think it was a case of Becky wanted to work with me, so I did,’ she smiled. I was hoping it would go somewhere. I was hoping people would go, “Oh, she can actually wrestle. Like, let’s give her something”.

‘But there’s so many people in that company that it’s hard to get on your feet and running unless something insane happens. I just don’t think it was my time.’

Nixon will return to the ring for ATTACK! Pro Wrestling in May against fellow WWE alumni Dani Luna, who she described as ‘a superstar in every sense of the word’.

‘So knowing that I’m wrestling her soon, that definitely helped light that fight a little bit more,’ she smiled. ‘If I put my mind to this, we could have an absolute banger.’
