‘Absolute classic’ 00s rom-com is sadly leaving Netflix very soon
Devastating!

Film fans don’t have long to watch an ‘absolute classic’ 00s rom-com before it leaves Netflix for good.
Miss Congeniality hit the big screen in December 2000, following Sandra Bullock as FBI agent Gracie Hart, who goes undercover as a contestant at the Miss United States pageant after an anonymous bomb threat.
Michael Caine, Benjamin Bratt, Candice Bergen, William Shatner, Ernie Hudson and Heather Burns were also among the star-studded cast.
As well as a legendary makeover scene – with the strapless mini dress of our dreams – it also remains very quotable more than two decades on, with April 25 going down in history as the ‘perfect date’ because ‘all you need is a light jacket’.
Sandra later reprised her role in the 2005 sequel, Miss Congeniality: Armed and Dangerous, alongside Regina King.

Sadly for Netflix users in the US, the first flick is among the titles ‘leaving soon’, and will be removed from Netflix on April 1.

Despite going down as a classic for many, it currently has a shockingly low critics Rotten Tomatoes score of 41%, compared to a much higher 69% from the audience.
Heaping praise on Sandra and co on the platform, SoTotallyKicksAss wrote: ‘One of Sandra Bullocks best performance. Loved every second of this movie. Excellent support from Benjamin Bratt and Michael Caine [sic].’
‘This is an absolute classic. Sandra Bullock dominates the screen with perfect comedic timing,’ David H insisted. ‘I created an account just to write this review because I was so shocked by the low scores.

An anonymous user posted: ‘This is one of my favorite movies. It never gets old and never fails to make me laugh. Sandra Bullock’s performance is hilarious. I quote it frequently. It’s movie comfort food.’
‘A very fresh, funny and cheesy movie well worth the time! Sandra Bullock is awesome! In fact, he entire cast was just great! Caine, Bratt, Bergen and Shatner were so funny,’ Jack B added.
‘Ignore the mediocre reviews and see for yourself! And, if you didn’t watch the sequel, you should [sic].’
It became a huge hit with film fans (Picture: Shutterstock)Although it was met with poor reviews, Miss Congeniality was a huge hit at the global box office, and raked in a whopping $212million.
The sequel, which was released five years after the first movie premiered, saw Gracie unwittingly become the ‘face’ of the FBI after saving everyone at the beauty pageant, with Sam Fuller (Regina) in charge of protecting her.
However, Sandra has absolutely no plans to revive the franchise any time soon, and joked that the follow-up we did get should never have seen the light of day.
Speaking to Metro in a previous interview, she was questioned over whether fans could get their hands on a Miss Congeniality 3, in the current era of reboots, sequels and revivals.
Sandra previously slated the 2005 sequel (Picture: Shutterstock)‘God no! No, no,’ she swiftly replied. ‘Two shouldn’t have been done but I’m glad that it did because of Regina, who I just freaking adore. That one should have remained a one-off.
‘Unless they make a prequel with the young Gracie Hart, with the moustache and the monobrow.
‘Gracie Hart in her 10-11-year-old life, still acting very much the same as Gracie Hart as an adult would be cute.’
Until then, we’ll be watching the first film on repeat…
Miss Congeniality is available to stream on Netflix now.
