Previous Page Next PageAdolescence has dominated the Netflix charts since its release in March 2025 and one of the stars has now given fresh hope of season 2 becoming a reality.
Written by Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham, the British crime drama follows Eddie Miller (Graham) as he deals with the fallout of his son Jamie (Owen Cooper) being accused of murdering a female schoolmate.
The show quickly became one of the most-watched series on the platform, becoming the streaming giant’s biggest UK release ever and sparking conversations about the impact the ‘manosphere’ is having on teenagers.
Metro recently had the chance to speak to Faye Marsay, who played DS Misha Frank in the drama, about the prospect of the series returning with new episodes.
Considering its success, it’s hardly surprising that season two talks have reportedly begun, even though co-creators Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne originally conceived it as a limited series.

Although at the moment the plans for a second season are purely hypothetical, at least one cast member seems up for getting the band back together.

‘I’d work with that team again in a heartbeat, for free, for the rest of her life,’ the Game of Thrones actor said. ‘So, we’ll see what happens’.
It’s been reported this week that Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B Entertainment is keen to capitalise on the first season’s success and is in early talks to bring the show back for a second run, after the Hollywood actor worked as a producer on Adolescence.
Plan B co-presidents Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner have met with director Philip Barantini about a second season, and they are hoping they can reunite Graham and Thorne on the project, Deadline reported.
Gardner admitted that they need to stay true to Adolescence’s DNA and not repeat themselves if they do make more episodes.
Would Adolescence season 2 work?Deputy TV Editor Tom Percival gives his verdict on the potential for Adolescence season two
The popularity of Adolescence makes season two seem like a no-brainer, yet I understand the hesitance to do a second run. After all, it’s clear that Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne were motivated by a genuine desire to tell a story about knife crime and explore what motivates young boys to commit extreme acts of violence against girls.
Any attempt to cover another issue may seem belaboured or hackneyed then if it’s only being made to add something else to Netflix’s back-catalogue, and it would be a shame to tarnish Adolescence’s legacy.
Yet, at the same time, Adolescence feels like it lends itself incredibly well to the anthology format. You could have different seasons focused on different kids and other adolescent issues.
After all, the danger of the manosphere is hardly the only thing affecting young people these days, and it might be interesting to draw attention to other less well-reported social issues.
If it did go ahead, though, I do think you need a throughline between all the different stories. Thankfully, characters like DI Luke Bascombe (Ashley Walters) and DS Misha Frank (Faye Marsay) feel like natural fits for that role as they’re police officers who’d come into contact with all sorts of people in the line of duty.
Faye Marsay has said she would “work with that team again in a heartbeat” (Picture: AP)The news of second season talks has proven divisive among Adolescence fans with some people believing another run focused on another teenager story is a great idea.
@ZakRed567 wrote on X: ‘I think this can work out well if it focuses on a different teenager’s story, maybe a young girl this time. Adolescence is a broad spectrum after all.’ While @salmukaimy added: ‘Hope the seasons portrays different storyline (sic) and different adolescence. Don’t return Jamie.’
Others however are a little more sceptical and have concerns that Netflix are doing this for the wrong reasons.

Adolescence has been a smash hit for Netflix (Picture: Courtesy of Netflix)@RicRA1DER was similarly cynical, writing: ‘Netflix try not to make an unnecessary season for a “limited series” based on True Story impossible challenge.’
Neither Thorne nor Graham have commented on the reports about Adolescence season two, but the former has been emphatic that a second run is very unlikely.
During an interview with ITV’s This Morning the 46-year-old said: ‘I don’t think there’s anywhere more we can take Jamie. So, I don’t think there is a series two.
‘We’d love to explore the one-shot format in another way. We’d love to tell other stories with it, but I don’t think series two of Adolescence is quite right for us.’
Adolescence is streaming on Netflix.
