Twilight star Taylor Lautner is harking back to his Jacob Black roots with a meta TV show on Amazon all about hunting werewolves.

Yes, really.

The four-movie adaptation of Stephanie Meyer’s bestselling book series The Twilight Saga – which came out between 2008 and 2012 – followed the love story between high school student Bella (Kristen Stewart) and vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson).

Of course, we can’t forget Edward’s rival in love and folklore, werewolf Jacob Black played by the 33-year-old actor.

The cultural impact of this era cannot be understated.

Friendships were torn apart over whether you were team Jacob or team Edward; the Muse’s Super Massive Black Hole was on every playlist; and Kristen’s delivery of ‘you nicknamed my daughter after the Loch Ness monster’ has gone down in film history.

So, naturally, 13 years later Taylor has decided to get sucked back into the weird and wacky world with an utterly unbelievable premise.

The new Amazon MGM Studios show, Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter, does exactly what it says on the tin and follows the Sharkboy star post-Twilight as he joins a group of werewolf hunters.

The official logline (brace yourselves) reads: ‘After wrapping the final Twilight film, Taylor Lautner vanished from the spotlight. Fans speculated, tabloids theorized—but the truth is wilder than fiction.

‘Taylor wasn’t just taking a mental health break. He was preparing for his real calling…Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter.

‘Playing himself, Taylor is drawn into a secret society of werewolf trackers who need his unique expertise.

‘As he navigates his double life—Hollywood actor by day, supernatural warrior by night—Taylor must wrestle with the ultimate irony: fighting the very creatures that made him famous.

‘Between saving the world, reviving his career, and falling in love, he faces the ultimate question—what happens when your biggest role becomes your greatest enemy?’

In an Instagram post confirming the news, the Hollywood actor who will also executive produce, wrote: ‘Just when I thought I was out…they pull me back in.’

And the news has completely blown everyone’s minds as they shared their conflicted excitement for the bonkers series.

‘That is so phenomenally meta that I absolutely adore it!’ sianceinwen commented.

‘So this is how we are doing 2025? With Taylor Lautner as a Werewolf Hunter?!?! I was NOT ready but so amped!!!’ purplerisingbvashes shared.

‘This jointly sound stupid as hell but I’m in for it sometimes you gotta embrace stupid goofy s**t. This will be one of those things,’ tj_isdaname echoed.

‘Why does this feel like a ChatGPT idea and why am I excited for it?’ liamdgc said.

‘Obsessed with this concept oh my god,’ rachel_remeney praised.

‘This is the best thing I have ever read,’ breakroomnr agreed.

‘We live in the most unserious timeline,’ _heatherlynn wrote.

‘This actually sounds like a genius idea (and smart career move for Taylor Lautner),’ ashleyspencer posed.

The screenstar – married to his wife-of-two years Taylor Lautner – has been in a handful of projects since Breaking Dawn – Part 2 came out 13 years ago including Ryan Murphy’s Scream Queens andBritish sitcom Cuckoo which ended in 2018.

But this marks his biggest comeback in years.

And he is not the only one who has reflected on his Twilight days.

Last year, co-star Kristen opened up about how Twilight is actually ‘such a gay movie’.

She continued: ‘I mean … Taylor [Lautner], and Rob [Pattinson] and me, and [the relationship] is so hidden and not okay.’

Referencing Meyer, she added: ‘A Mormon woman wrote this book. It’s all about oppression, about wanting what’s going to destroy you. That’s a very Gothic, gay inclination that I love.’

And Batman star Robert has gone to bat for the fantasy franchise time and time again.

In a recent interview with GQ Spain, he shut down any lingering haters once and for all.

‘I love that people keep telling me, “Man, Twilight ruined the vampire genre,” he said in the interview, translated by Variety.

‘Are you still stuck on that s**t? How can you be sad about something that happened almost 20 years ago? It’s crazy.’

If the success of the Twilight movies is anything to go by (they grossed $3.36billion (£2.6billion) worldwide) then we have no doubt Taylor’s new series, directed by Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, is set to be a smashing success.
