BBC rebooting classic game show with one of ‘TV’s most in demand stars’
Hole In The Wall is making a comeback (Picture: BBC) Hole In The Wall is set to return with filming getting underway in the next few weeks. The hit BBC game show, which originally ran for two seasons from 2008 and 2009 with the late Dale Winton and Strictly’s Anton Du Beke as hosts, is poised for a comeback with a pilot set to be filmed next month. It’s been reported that Alison Hammond will be following in their footsteps as the new host, and fans can now apply for free tickets for the taping. The listing on LostInTV reads: ‘Join a brand new celebrity host for the pilot filming, of the fun family game-show HOLE IN THE WALL. ‘Filming at Maidstone Studios on 10th April, two families will take on the famous walls to win a cash prize! ‘Joined by Celebrity helpers, and taking on brand new games, don’t miss out on your chance to be there and see all of the action.’ It’s yet to be confirmed if the This Morning star, 50, will be fronting the show, but recent reports claimed the Beeb wanted the ‘in-demand’ presenter for the gig. Alison Hammond was reported to be hosting the revival (Picture: Dave Benett/Getty Images for #Merky) ‘Hole In The Wall got great ratings when it first came out so the Beeb have decided to bring it back,’ a source told The Sun. ‘They are currently filming the pilot to see how it shapes up. They wanted to sign Alison and she jumped at the chance to do it. ‘She’s one of TV’s most in-demand stars right now and the Beeb is over the moon that they’ve signed her.’ The beloved show sees players having to contort themselves to fit through cutout holes of various shapes in a giant polystyrene wall, which moves towards them as they stand in front of a swimming pool. The contestants are battling to win £10,000, while the format first appeared as Brain Wall (AKA Human Tetris) on Japanese variety show The Tunnels’ Thanks To Everyone. Fans are overjoyed by the news (Picture: BBC) When the reports first emerged last month, fans were overjoyed at the idea of Alison bringing back the series for another run. ‘Peak UK tele is coming back,’ wrote @NathanTBatWaver, while @perzephone added: ‘The greatest thing to happen in the UK in a long time tbh.’ ‘Omg my life is made,’ cheered @Debbieeee_xo, as @ArtifexWarden agreed: ‘This is how I know it’s all going to be okay.’ And superfan @charlxsinclair wrote: ‘This is actually huge for me, I think about this show more than I care to admit. I am excited.’ Metro has contacted the BBC for comment. Got a story?
