A Friends star has remembered Matthew Perry’s ‘gentlemanly’ reaction after accidentally finding herself topless in front of him.

The Chandler Bing actor died in October 2023 at the age of 54 by acute effects of ketamine.

In the months that have followed, his co-stars have shared their memories of working with him and paid emotional tributes.

Now, Friends actress Paget Brewster, has shared her own unforgettable experience with him.

The star played Kathy on the sitcom, who had a brief fling with Chandler in season four.

Speaking to The Independent, Paget, who is better known for her role as Emily Prentiss on Criminal Minds, recalled when Perry invited her back to his house to play basketball.

‘I remember we had one day where Matthew and I were not going to be in scenes for about three hours. And so he said, “Hey, do you want to go? Do you want to go play basketball at my house? It’s just up Mulholland [Drive in Los Angeles].”

‘And I was like, “Sure, let’s — I’ll go play basketball at your house”,’ the 56-year-old shared.

‘It was in his pool… and we’re throwing hoops, and I was wearing a pair of his shorts and my bra,’ she went on, explaining it was entirely innocent.

‘He was dressed. I was dressed, but I threw a shot, and my bra slipped down, and Matthew — I’m laughing — and he looks at me, and he [puts his hand over his eyes] and goes, “You’re, you gotta, you might wanna take a look at that.”‘

She remembered Perry as ‘such a gentleman and a sweetheart’ after the awkward wardrobe blunder.

‘He was really a lovely guy. And I’m really glad I was able to read his book before he passed,’ she added to the publication, of Perry’s 2022 memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.

‘He’s definitely missed.’

In Perry’s tell-all memoir, he spoke about his struggles with addiction, and terrifying near-death experiences.

At one point, he revealed that he had been given a 2% chance of survival and was in a coma for two weeks after being hospitalised in 2018 after his colon burst from opioid misuse.

‘The doctors told my family that I had a 2 percent chance to live,’ the 17 Again star told People Magazine.

‘I was put on a thing called an ECMO machine, which does all the breathing for your heart and your lungs. And that’s called a Hail Mary. No one survives that.’

He spent five months in hospital and had to use a colostomy bag for nine months.

Elsewhere in the memoir, he revealed that it was Jennifer Aniston who confronted him about his drinking while they were staring in Friends together, recalling how she was there for him in his darkest times.

Ahead of its release, he had said: ‘So much has been written about me in the past. I thought it was time people heard from me.

‘The highs were high, the lows were low. But I have lived to tell the tale, even though at times it looked like I wouldn’t. And it’s all in here.’

After Perry’s death, his Friends castmates – Jennifer, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer, with whom he worked across ten years, released a joint statement to  their devastation at Matthew’s loss.

‘We were more than just castmates. We are a family,’ the statement read. ‘There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.’

‘In time, we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.’

On August 15, 2024, five individuals, including Perry’s personal assistant, were charged in connection with his death.
