Harvey Weinstein has issued a surprise statement in response to best actor Academy Award-winner Adrien Brody’s acceptance speech at the 2025 Oscars, which mentioned his children.

Brody, who was honoured for his work in the 215-minute epic The Brutalist as Hungarian immigrant to the US László Toth – his second leading actor win, 22 years after the first for The Pianist – is in a relationship with Weinstein’s ex-wife, Georgina Chapman.

The couple, who have been together since 2019, made their red carpet debut in 2021, with fashion designer Chapman, 48, proudly by her 51-year-old partner’s side for his awards season triumph over the past two months.

During his speech, which broke the record for the Oscars’ longest ever at five minutes and 40 seconds, the actor paid tribute to his nearest and dearest, saying: ‘I share this with my amazing partner Georgina, who has not only reinvigorated my own self-worth but my sense of value and my values and her beautiful children, Dash and India.’

He then went on to reveal the sweet name Weinstein’s children, aged 11 and 14, have for him, adding: ‘It’s been a rollercoaster, but thank you for accepting me into your life, and Popsy’s coming home a winner.’

Weinstein’s spokesperson Juda Engelmayer told is happy for Georgina and grateful that his kids are being loved and cared for as they deserve to be.’

Marchesa founder Chapman split from Weinstein, 72, in 2017, in the wake of numerous sexual abuse allegations against him, which started the #MeToo movement.

The disgraced former film producer, who was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer last year on top of other health woes, is currently locked up in Rikers Island following two trials where he was found guilty of rape and sexual assault; these gave him a combined 39-year jail term.

However, a retrial is scheduled to begin in April on the 23-year sentence from his 2020 New York rape conviction, which was tossed out in 2024.

He remains in custody due to his 2022 conviction in Los Angeles on sex crimes, which gave him a 16-year sentence, which is now also under appeal.

Chapman also had the murky distinction at the Oscars of attempting to catch Brody’s chewing gum as he threw it to her in a panic while taking to the stage to accept his best actor gong.

She also displayed a good sense of humour when Halle Berry approached him on the red carpet to recreate their infamous eyebrow-raising kiss from the 2023 Academy Awards.

Brody moved into Chapman’s farmhouse in upstate New York in 2022, living there with India and Dash, her mother and several pets – as confirmed in a Vogue profile in January, where she spoke alongside Brody.

It’s also not the first time Brody has thanked her in a speech on the awards circuit, in a major return to the spotlight for him.

When Brody picked up the best male actor in a motion picture (drama) prize at the Golden Globes in January, he thanked his ‘beautiful and amazing’ girlfriend in an emotional speech.

‘Your generosity of spirit, your own resilience, your immense creativity are a daily reminder of how to be – I would not be standing here before you if it wasn’t for you,’ he told her, seated among the crowd.

‘There was a time not too long ago that I felt this may never be a moment afforded to me again, so thank you,’ he added.

The French Dispatch and King Kong star has also elsewhere referenced the struggle he faced when his career hit a rougher patch between his two Oscar wins.

In the same Vogue interview, he revealed that he had put his acting career ‘on pause’ about 10 years ago.

‘To be honest, I wasn’t finding material that spoke to me,’ Brody shared.
