Major A-list star confirmed to reprise role in long-awaited Mamma Mia 3
Consider us seated.

As if news of a new Mamma Mia! movie couldn’t be any more exciting, one major star looks set to return to the cast.
A third film in the iconic franchise has been on the cards for a while, but leading actress Amanda Seyfried recently shared her plans to bring it to fruition.
Dedicated to bringing the third instalment to the silver screen, the 39-year-old American star, who plays Sophie, has now given a major update on who else will feature… and if you’re hoping to read Cher’s name, you’re in luck.
The Believe hitmaker appeared in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018) as Sophie’s grandmother and mother of the late Donna (Meryl Streep).
Though her stint was brief, she certainly left an impact, both by arriving via helicopter to a party (uninvited) and then showcasing her pipes on Fernando.
Speaking of her hopes to get Cher, 78, back for another outing as Ruby Sheridan, Amanda said: ‘Cher is definitely going to be in it. I mean, I wouldn’t want to do it without her at this point.’

‘There’s got to be a contest where somebody writes Mama Mia! 3,’ the Mean Girls actress joked.
But there are still plenty of reasons to be optimistic, as Cher herself has expressed her eagerness to be involved again.

‘We’re talking about it,’ the chart-topper told Entertainment Weekly.
‘I don’t know when they’re going to do it, but I know they’re talking about it.’

Its plot followed Sophie and her family as they prepared for her wedding on a Greek island, but, unbeknownst to her mother, she had secretly invited three men from Donna’s past, suspecting one to be her father.
Fans had to wait a whole decade for the next film, as Here We Go Again dropped in 2018.
This time, Lily James joined to play a young Donna in a sort of prequel, following her romantic escapades following graduation and her dalliances with Sam, Harry, and Bill.
Alas, the sequel was also laced with heartbreak, as Donna had died, leaving behind her daughter, who was opening a hotel in her memory.

However, it’s currently unknown how acting legend Meryl could be written into another movie, with fans currently speculating like crazy whether she’d be part of it.
The cast seems to want it to happen, though, with Cher also saying it was ‘an amazing experience’ to act alongside her, describing being on set as ‘really fun’.
‘I took it on a lark because Mary Louise (Meryl) was in there, and I love her. The idea that I was her mother was hysterical,’ she added.
Championing Meryl’s return as Donna (somehow), she also said: ‘I keep saying, “Meryl, you’ve got to come back”.’
We can’t forget the Abba songs either, of course, as classic tunes such as Dancing Queen, Super Trooper, Waterloo, and SOS all feature in the first two. It remains to be seen which of the Swedish band’s hits will be covered in Mamma Mia! 3.
Alas, it seems we’ve got a long wait ahead of us until cameras actually start rolling, but for now, we will happily take whatever crumbs the cast wishes to throw our way.
