Massive Netflix hit starring A-List Oscar winner set for a second series – but with a huge twist
Nicole Kidman starred as a famous novelist.

Netflix have reportedly renewed their hit thriller The Perfect Couple for a second season – but there’s a twist in store.
The first season of the TV thriller saw a murder unfold at a lavish wedding ceremony in Nantucket, turning the well-to-do family into suspects.
Nicole Kidman played famous novelist Greer Garrison Winbury, with Liev Schreiber as her husband, Tag. Eve Hewson (daughter of Bono!) played daughter-in-law-to-be Amelia, who was set to marry their son, Benji (Billy Howle) before… well, the whole murder thing.
Upon its release last year, the show left viewers shell-shocked, with fans describing it as ‘perverted’ and ‘inappropriate.’
According to Variety, Netflix has renewed the show for a second season – but with an all-new cast and set of characters in tow.

Taking a page from The White Lotus’ book, The Perfect Couple’s second series will reportedly be leaving the Winburys behind as it heads down the anthology route.

If true, the second season will be based on her novel Swan Song, which also takes place on the Massachusetts island of Nantucket.
However, instead of Greer and the Winbury clan, its story would focus on the mysterious Richardson family.
And, as their recently-purchased million dollar home burns down, retiring Chief of Police Ed Kapenash is drawn into the crime, along with local divorcee Sharon.
Whether any of the original cast will return remains to be seen, with Joanna Calo reportedly set to serve as writer, executive producer and showrunner – along with Babygirl star Nicole, who will return as executive producer.

The show initially received mixed reviews from critics, who described it as ‘anticlimactic’ and ‘underwhelming’ – contributing to its ‘rotten’ 59% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.
At the time, Pat Stacey of the Irish Independent wrote: ‘The Perfect Couple is a mess — part-soap opera, part-whodunit, and wholly all over the place in terms of tone.’
Other TV critics have since come around, with the show now certified ‘fresh’ on the platform, at a healthy 65%.
Contributing to its now-positive score is Variety’s Aramide Tinubu, writing: ‘As clues are unearthed, long-held secrets about the Winburys come to light in the most absurd ways, making way for a pulpy, overdramatized and entirely entertaining show.’

Speaking to Metro last year, director Susanne Bier emphasised the significance of the Nantucket setting, describing the island as ‘super important.’
‘The island of Nantucket is, is a, is a player of its own. And it’s not just the physical Island. It’s also like a mental island.
‘It is very, it’s, it’s very insular for good and bad.’
The Perfect Couple is available to stream on Netflix.
