Oscar-nominated movie labelled ‘brilliant beyond belief’ now streaming for free
It followed the breakdown of a friendship.

An Irish film named ‘one of the best films of the 21st century’ is now available to watch for free.
Released in 2022, The Banshees of Inisherin starred Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson as lifelong friends Pádraic and Colm Doherty.
Set on a fictional island off the west coast of Ireland in the early 1920s as the civil war unfolds on the mainland, the pair find themselves at loggerheads after one abruptly decides to cut the other off for no apparent reason.
Directed by Martin McDonagh, the film also starred Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan.
It was a critical and commercial success, being nominated for nine Oscars and also won three Golden Globes and four Baftas.
In its review The Observer called the movie ‘nothing short of a marvel’.

Previous Page Next Page‘McDonagh’s screenplay is superb, playful and bleakly witty on the surface, but hiding troughs of existential disillusionment and despair,’ The Irish Independent wrote.
‘The Banshees of Inisherin is a rich, soulful journey, full of agony, dry Irish wit and big, haunting questions. If it’s answers you’re looking for, however, you’re not going to find them on Inisherin,’ the Associated Press said.
Meanwhile, Metro’s review labelled it ‘a work of absurdist genius’.
‘You’ll ponder the boundaries of kindness and gaze into the existential void, all whilst having a laugh. A movie that approaches big themes with deceptive simplicity,’ it added.
This week the film was released on Channel 4, with viewers now able to watch it for free in the UK.
It was also the break-out role for Barry Keoghan, who went on to star in Saltburn (Picture: Searchlight Pictures)After noticing, many fans urged others to tune in. ‘Banshees of Inisherin is currently on channel 4 and I would highly recommend everyone watch it,’ Aoife posted on X.
However, there’s no time to waste as it will only be available to watch over the next four weeks.
Previously speaking to CBS about the response to the film, Farrell shared: ‘People have said to me that Banshees just floored them, just took them days, and they’ve been a bit haunted by it.’
‘It’s very humbling, because I’ve done plenty of things that people haven’t connected to. You don’t always go to work and create stuff that people connect to. You can’t expect that all the time. So, the fact that it’s arrived on this one is fairly cool!’
The Banshees of Inisherin is streaming on Channel 4.
