Oscar-nominee’s ‘finest film’ with 92% Rotten Tomatoes score is finally on Netflix

There’s some good news for thriller film fans as an iconic Denis Villeneuve movie has finally been added to Netflix.

The Oscar-nominee helmed Sicario in 2015, with Emily Blunt leading the cast alongside Daniel Kaluuya, Benicio del Toro, Jon Bernthal and Josh Brolin.

It focuses on FBI special agent Kate Macer who is enlisted by a government task force to bring down the leader of a Mexican drug cartel.

Despite being released a decade ago, the flick – which sparked a 2018 sequel – was recently released on Netflix in the US, sending users into meltdown.

Sicario has stormed into the top 10 on the platform and is currently in third place, beaten out by Despicable Me 4 and Counterattack.

Impressed viewers flocked to praise Denis’ masterpiece, with Captain B penning: ‘One of my favorite films of all time, acting, cinematography, story, dialog, directing, topical importance: it doesn’t get much better than this.’

Stephen H agreed: ‘Talk about one of the most exciting, greatest movies of all-time. The acting, cinematography, sound, music, everything was incredible.’

‘Very few movies build tension as well as Sicario,’ Kieran C praised. ‘Very few movies I still a sense of impending dress that builds throughout.

‘Sicario is easily one of the best movies that was snubbed for Best Picture and is far better than many nominees and even winners.’

Webb H posted: ‘Visually appealing, well written, and suspenseful. This heart-pounding thriller will have you on the edge of your seat for just about the entire run time.’

As an unnamed user added: ‘You can clearly see the influence this movie had on both Dune movies.

‘With beautiful cinematography, daunting music and led by a triplet of outstanding actors, this might be Villeneuve’s finest movie.’

Sicario is only available on the US version of Netflix, but can be streamed in the UK for free on BBC iPlayer.

After the huge success of the first movie, a sequel was released in 2018 and focused on Benicio’s character – titled Sicario: Day of the Soldado.

A third film, Sicario: Capos, was announced before the second premiered, but we are still waiting for any details on whether this will hit the big screen.

Sicario is available to stream on Netflix now.
