Peppa Pig fans have been left shocked after discovering the cartoon character’s real name.

Despite being on our screens for 21 years, fans of the show had no idea what the first name was of the main character.

In February, viewers were baffled by the ‘bonkers’ way Mummy Pig chose to announce her pregnancy.

The cartoon appeared on Good Morning Britain where she exclusively informed presenter Richard Arnold that she was expecting her third child.

Some viewers questioned whether they were hallucinating as they watched the breakfast show.

But now it appears there is even more drama with the show after it was revealed that Peppa is in fact the pig’s middle name.

Last year, Metro exclusively revealed how despite becoming one of the most popular children’s TV show ever made, 20 years ago bosses were concerned about people ‘getting on board’ with Peppa Pig.

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the show, Richard Ridings, known as Daddy Pig, said: ‘At the time I thought a family of pigs was a bit weird.

‘But as soon as you see it, you get it, and hear the script and how witted they are, it does make sense.’

He added: ‘I thought, I wanted to be involved even if it was tiny, but who could imagine it being so big across the world.’

Peppa Pig first aired on TV Channel 5 back in May 2004.

Created by Astley Baker Davies, the show has been broadcast in over 180 countries and dubbed in over 40 languages.

Peppa Pig is available to watch on Channel 5.
