Sir Elton John and his husband David Furnish were pictured alongside their rarely seen sons as the family attended their rock star dad’s special event.

Zachary, 14, and 12-year-old Elijah made it a family affair as they posed with their parents as they arrived together for the 33rd Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards viewing party on Sunday.

A highly sought-after ticket in Hollywood, it was held at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood, California.

Chart-topping legend Sir Elton, 77, beamed as he stood proudly next to his sons, with David, 62, flanking them on the other end.

The star, who had been in attendance at the Oscars earlier, where he was nominated for best original song alongside Brandi Carlile for Never Too Late from his documentary of the same name, wore a dark suit with embroidered lapels and a bright blue shirt.

Meanwhile, his teenage sons also wore dark-coloured suits as they posed with their arms around their dads.

The I’m Still Standing singer and advertising executive turned producer have been together for over 30 years, entering a civil partnership on December 21, 2005, the day the act came into force.

Their two sons were born via the sae surrogate, with Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John born on Christmas Day in 2020, and Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John arriving on January 11, 2013.

In 2014, the couple tied the knot in Windsor, Berkshire after same-sex marriage became legal in the UK.

In 2016 he described his children with Furnish as ‘the greatest thing in our lives’.

‘If you’d had said to me 10 years ago I’d be sitting on your show married to the man I love and have two beautiful children I would have said, “You put acid in my drink”,’ Sir Elton commented on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

‘But life throws you challenges and life throws you curveballs — great curveballs — and these two children have come along at a time I never thought I’d have children. There’s no words to describe how much we love these boys. They’re just amazing.’

The music icon recently confessed that he ‘lost it’ and needed comforting for 45 minutes when a new song he was working on with longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin, made him confront his mortality.

‘Bernie Taupin gave me a lyric called, When This Whole World is Done with Me, and I’m writing the verse quite quickly, and I think this is a really lovely verse,’ Elton recalled while on The Graham Norton Show on February 7.

‘And I get to the chorus, and I find that it’s about my death, my demise. And as a 76-year-old man, which I was at that time, and having children and having a husband, mortality – you think about, how long have I got? I hope I’ve got much longer than maybe I’ve got.

‘So by the time I got to the chorus and suddenly realised that, I started singing it (and) I lost it for 45 minutes. It was a very, very heavy moment for me.’

The star added that his own reaction ‘took me by surprise’.

Sir Elton has been dealing with health issues recently, including sight loss after a severe eye infection in the summer, which left him struggling to work.

It meant he also wasn’t able to see the star-studded gala performance of his new West End show, a musical adaptation of the Oscar-nominated movie The Devil Wears Prada, when he attended in November.

However, he hopes to recover some of his eyesight, telling fans on social media that after ‘quietly spending the summer recuperating at home’, he was ‘feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far’.
