A candidate on The Apprentice has reportedly quit the series early.

Lord Alan Sugar has returned with a new batch of hopefuls attempting to secure his £250,000 investment into their businesses.

The gruelling tasks have already begun, with the candidates having created virtual pop stars and set off abroad to run holiday tours.

But it’s now been claimed the process became too much for one contestant.

A source said: ‘The Apprentice isn’t for everyone and some of the candidates only realise that once they’re in the process.

‘One contestant this series decided to leave the competition early telling Lord Sugar “this isn’t for me.”

‘It came as a total shock in the boardroom – some of the cast now believe the candidate wanted to avoid the potential embarrassment of being fired.

‘They saved Lord Sugar the trouble and simply gave up the chance of becoming his next business partner.’

Another insider also told MailOnline that the candidate ‘realised that the show wasn’t the right process for them’, and didn’t want it as much as their competitors.

‘They have a very successful business, and they always had one eye on getting back to that. Everyone involved just wishes them the absolute best,’ they added.

Ahead of the new series airing, Lord Sugar said he wanted his show to inspire young people to become entrepreneurs and graft towards their goals.

He said: ‘I hope that my programme encourages (hard work) of course.

‘I would like those people to grasp something and realise you’ve got to physically go and do something, physically work somewhere, or have a passion for something that you want to do.

‘So I’m not painting every young person with the same brush.’

He also praised the production crew creating the tasks for a ‘younger audience’, despite having to get to grips with the technology-aspects himself.

He said: ‘The production crew are a very, very clever bunch of people, they come up with these tasks that include technology, and the first person they have to explain it to is me.

‘So I have to understand it, and I have to make out I understand it deeply, and I do spend quite a bit of time going through it.

‘So I do understand it in order for me to project my questions at the candidates on it.

‘We have to have some up-to-date stuff, people are talking about AI, they’re talking about online stuff, we have to include it, because that’s what the younger audience wants to see.’

Metro has approached reps for The Apprentice and the BBC for comment.

The Apprentice continues on Thursday at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
