Fern Britton has wowed her followers with a gym selfie of her looking super powerful.

The This Morning presenter, 67, posed in front of various weights in her home wearing some black gym shorts and a salmon-pink long tee as she took a picture of her toned physique in the mirror.

‘REPOWERING after a sloth like winter,’ Fern wrote alongside the picture.

Followers flocked to support Fern and to ask about her fitness routine.

‘You’re a wonderful role model, Fern…really inspiring!!’ said janeypops89, while hoblouise said: ‘You look incredible fern! All the hard work has paid off! Fitness never felt so good! Xxx’

‘Wow you look amazing Fern, I need to know your secrets desperately,’ commented vintage_and_colour, as suereadart echoed: ‘Would love some tips how you got into such good shape.’

Fern revealed in January she’d gone back to the beginning of her running routine, and started Couch to 5K.

Alongside the post, Fern also hashtagged the name of her book The Older I Get, which was released in November and is out in paperback now.

In it, Fern talked about ‘repowering’ several times throughout her life, most notably so when she turned 60 and her world was upended.

Within a few years both of the presenter’s parents died and her 20-year marriage to TV chef Phil Vickery ended.

Fern shares her eldest three children – twins Harry and Jack, 31, and Grace, 28 – with her former husband Clive Jones, and Winnie, 23, with Phil.

Swapping her Buckinghamshire life for a new seaside pace in Cornwall, Fern’s life completely changed.

Previously speaking on James Martin’s Saturday Morning, Fern told James of the relocation: ‘It was a brand new chapter, absolutely. I found myself single, children off my hands.’

James later said to her: ‘I get the feeling that you’ve gone through so many things in your life, highs and the lows… you’re at a happy place now.’

Agreeing, Fern replied: ‘I am, actually! I am very happy, and this is life for loads of people.’

She also referred to herself as her ‘own boss’ – a freedom she felt she hadn’t had for many years.

The TV star added: ‘Life is good. I’m my own boss now, which is great – in every sense. My life, my work, everything. I’m my own boss and I’m enjoying that.’

Fern’s fitness journey comes after she confessed to slipping into unhealthy and worrying habits during the Covid pandemic lockdowns, which came as she was grieving three people from her life.

Explaining her deteriotating health at the Cheltenham Literary Festival, in quotes obtained by The Mirror, Fern recalled how she ‘fell into this era of indolence’ where she ‘just started lying in bed later and later and later’.

‘What was the purpose of getting up and getting dressed or getting showered or cleaning my teeth because I will soon be back in bed,’ she figured.

‘Why don’t I start smoking? Yes. Drinking. Yes, eating yes, the whole thing. And then it took me about a year to realise that I put a lot of weight on, that I was not breathing well,’ she confessed.

Fern added that she ‘had a very bad time’, recalling how she took to smoking ‘like a duck to water’.

She said: ‘It punctuated the day, lets have a fag and then what time is it 4 O’clock? Let’s have a glass of wine.’

‘Looking back I was in a very bad place and gradually I started to pull myself out of it,’ Fern added.

One moment was pivotal in this transition, when she had to stop while driving in Cornwall to be sick after ‘overdoing the nicotine’.

She said: ‘I was in the hedgerow retching so much that I farted, and all I could hear in the car was the girls saying “classy lady” – so I haven’t touched one since.’

It took a ‘lot of mental effort’ and ‘therapy’, but Fern said she eventually started feeling back to normal again.

During her stint on Celebrity Big Brother, Fern said she never wanted to fall in love again after Louis Walsh asked if she was looking for a special someone.

When announcing her and Phil’s separation, Fern’s statement read: ‘After more than 20 happy years together, Phil and I have decided to go our separate ways.

‘We will always share a great friendship and our lovely children.’

She later said that she and Phil ‘fell apart’ following the death of her mum and dad.
