A TV presenter has been called out after she compared her handbag being stolen to Laurence Fox being charged with a sex offence.

Earlier this week Fox, 46, was charged under the Sexual Offences Act after allegedly sharing an upskirting picture of TV presenter Narinder Kaur.

The actor-turned-politician has been accused of re-posting the image to his X account last year after an argument with the Good Morning Britain star online over politics.

If convicted he could face up to two years in prison and be placed on the Sex Offenders Register.

Then, on Tuesday night, TalkTV host Julia Hartley-Brewer, 56, shared a post about the incident that has seen her lambasted.

‘Laurence Fox charged with sex offences after he allegedly ‘shared upskirting pic’ of Narinder Kaur in online row,’ she posted on X, alongside an article about Fox being charged.

‘In other news, my handbag was stolen last June. I gave police CCTV of the theft. They ID’d the suspect. 10 months later, still no charges,’ she added.

She was quickly met with a wave of comments calling her out.

‘That’s pretty grim, Julia. Your handbag theft is bad but you cannot and should not trivialise what Fox has done. He’s been charged with sexual offences. Put yourself in Narinder’s shoes and show some compassion,’ Don commented.

‘So, you belittle sexual offences as equating to a stolen handbag – what a great look,’ Dave wrote.

‘That’s an appalling tweet. Comparing the two and trivialising a sex offence against another woman is pretty low!’ James added.

Meanwhile others called her actions ‘shameful’ and ‘disrespectful’.

Despite this, Julia still pushed back and said she was ‘comparing the policing of different crimes’.

Then, this morning, she posted a further antagonising tweet that read: ‘Ladies! Don’t forget to double check that you’ve remembered to put on knickers today. It’s such an easy mistake to make.’

Last year Hartley-Brewer was at the centre of the most complained about TV moment of 2024 following an interview with the general secretary of the Palestinian National Initiative.

While speaking to Dr Mustafa Barghouti about the assassination of the deputy leader of Hamas in the wake of the October 7 attacks she increasingly became irate and she told him ‘for the love of god, let me finish the sentence man’ and later added ‘maybe you’re not used to women talking’.

The segment sparked 17,366 complaints.

Metro has contacted representatives for Julia Hartley-Brewer for comment.
